danforeman Posted June 5, 2006 Report Posted June 5, 2006 (edited) have been thinking about this for a little while as i only live about 5 mins form the place me self, but does anyone have any idea why mildenhall and rdc seem to be doing so well over the last few years. i mean look at the pre 70 that was a few days ago it was probably the best classic car meeting have been to and the bba supreme with people/ teams like stinkbridge, bubbs (andy beaven), the mob comng all the way from scotland just to race for one night and why? (not that im complaining i think its brilliant) but when you look at tracks like arena averaging between 30-50 cars for a domestic meeting and the see mildo averain 90+ cars. just wondered if any drivers or fans could shed any light on this or if anyone else had noticed Edited June 5, 2006 by danforeman
splinter Posted June 5, 2006 Report Posted June 5, 2006 Maybe the main reason is because the place has a nice friendly down to earth attitude towards drivers and spectators, compared with the arrogant 'gistapo like' or 'couldn't care less' attitude that other promotions can give the impression off towards banger drivers. RDC have some good entry rules when it comes to Bangers, and keeps costs low and they seem to be on the drivers same wavelength. It's fairly easy for majority of drivers across the country to get to, it's a fantastic tight banger track with great character and is a good track for spectating at compared with some. Its just seems to be a track on the up at the moment. Most tracks seem to have their period of popularity and Mildenhall are definately in theirs over the past few years. I could be all wrong though!
xTx Posted June 6, 2006 Report Posted June 6, 2006 July 16th 2005, Suffulk Open and my 30th birthday. Got a baby sitter, drove up from london with my girl, lounged on the grassy bank in the evening sun, with the mixed scents of a warm suumers day and 120 banger driving nutters. Saw some great cars, rollers, bimmers, jags, japs, grannies, yanks, voles, P5's, DS's, hearses and more. The action was fantastic, some of the car control was sublime, mushy was throwing his 240 around like a rally superstar, the DD was a proper head to head between an XJS and a rock hard yank, I'll never forget it. It was the best way to spend my 30th and one of the best meetings i've been to. Go to Mildenhall, cos there's plenty more treasure to find!
tilly Posted June 6, 2006 Report Posted June 6, 2006 mildenhall has a brillaint attitude to racing.drivers all go in no matter who is in front and normally every one gets out shakin hands and joking about it were as at other tracks its all fights......rdc also allow alot more cars in and mainly look for driver protection so it brings more cars from a wider choice, its also not a dear track to go to and has good facilities bar sweets video ect overall one of my fav tracks
lewis208 Posted June 6, 2006 Report Posted June 6, 2006 mildo is 1 of my favourite tracks by far, its just a wicked atmosphere. miuldo last saturday was a brilliant meeting and it cost £16 for me n dad to get in but then the next day we went to arena essex it was £20 to get in at the racing at arena was not to good and i was so bored i left after final (but maybe coz the runners were banned it wasnt so good....?) cheerz tombo509
COURTY 334 Posted June 6, 2006 Report Posted June 6, 2006 In my opinion mildenhall is great, like people have already said, it has gd atmosphere and probably the best commentator there is. Also the attitude to drivers is good and there is respect for eachother. It also has good facilites and grandstand with bar. And also tracks have there up and down times and these few years has been mildenhalls up time.
danforeman Posted June 7, 2006 Author Report Posted June 7, 2006 for me mildenhall is one of the best tracks a few advantages being i only live 5 mins from the place and the amount of meeting they hold (and can see weather it worth going to a meting by the cars going up there from the work window) and i mean sitting on the grass banks n summer watching cars go full bore into each other with a nice cold drink in your hand what more do you want?
Gonzo441 Posted June 11, 2006 Report Posted June 11, 2006 Might be something to do with Michael coventry's incredible enthusiasm for the racing. He's always there to meet and greet the drivers and have a chat and that goes a long way for me. Makes you feel appreciated.
Jay404 Posted June 12, 2006 Report Posted June 12, 2006 Gotta agree with what has been said above, especially by gonzo, every other week we are at mildenhall or Dover and every time we turn up Michael Coventry is one of the first to come and have a laugh and a joke with us, like Gonzo says it goes a long way, especially if weve been rushing round the week prior getting a car ready! Another thing i like is the way they keep the drivers informed of any championships coming up etc Baz can race in, never fails to book him in and they keep the website right up to date! No wonder they get 100 odd cars at a domestic!
