Guest Trash Posted June 13, 2006 Report Posted June 13, 2006 Yes some great pictures...but what memories do they stir Sash? Now the Dougie George Westy at Yarmouth stirs mine as I remember him getting the laydown treatment....twice! Just wondering what memories they hold for you as it says you are 16 and I cant find many pictures past 1992 on there which would make you around 2 at the time?!

Nemesis239 Posted June 13, 2006 Report Posted June 13, 2006 have you seen pic 103 could the bolts in the boot be any bigger.
Guest Trash Posted June 13, 2006 Report Posted June 13, 2006 Ah yes, the old smallfield boot bolts, to be fair the bolts were not too bad, it was the normal divvy dag stuff....it was the washers which were a bit large...flywheels and brake drums were the common washers i seem to recall!!!!

Stu, theres a couple of pics from Newton Abbot, and Im sure that they are pre-'92 ones! The one of Richard Penfolds car reminds me of a trip I made to his old mans yard once, there where piles of mk1 grannys, three high at one side of the yard, and HUGE mountain of scrap cars in the middle, the height of the boom on his crane, and then on the far side of the yard there must have been at least 45/50 trummies, all piled three high, just waiting to be stripped. Pure Heaven!

Pure Heaven! Christ on a bike! 45 to 50 Trummies, that's a lifetime supply to a 1980's Westcountry racer! The Devon banger scene was known as Trummy Rods up here in these parts lol.

Pure Heaven! It's still like that now
jack 360 Posted June 13, 2006 Report Posted June 13, 2006 have you seen pic 103 could the bolts in the boot be any bigger.

No it doesnt bring back memories from these pics, like u sed i would have been 2, i mean like from the 1st Blockbuster things like that, drivers that hardly race anymore, e.g.Geoff Bowen. Those memories will be there for a long time. Sash P.SHere you can find alot more pics of the pre 95 banger scene with some unusual tin, e.g. a Range Rover Enjoy Edited June 13, 2006 by sashjag
Munster Posted June 13, 2006 Report Posted June 13, 2006 Great looking trough the old pictures If anyone finds pictures from the 1991 Ringwood open can you post the link up, I've been looking for ages now with no luck.
Knobby Posted June 13, 2006 Report Posted June 13, 2006 (edited) Ive got loads of pics of my dad racing at Arena in the 80's if anyone's interested ill post them up, Some with the old DHD in!, All Handpainted cars!! Edited June 13, 2006 by Knobby
mcrew Posted June 13, 2006 Report Posted June 13, 2006 have you seen pic 103 could the bolts in the boot be any bigger. And as if the bolts arn't big enough.....hes welded the boot down too. You Londoners may have reckoned that the SW banger scene was trummy rods Knobby, but in real life, most of the cars used to have more welding than a PRI banger does. Dazza, is Penfolds yard realy still like I described it? If it is, Health and safety obviously havent paid the place a visit, either that or old man Penfold mustve scared them off, thats if Nelson is still going, he was ancient when I saw him last, and that was a few years back now.!
Jay404 Posted June 13, 2006 Report Posted June 13, 2006 lol jack, saw them bolts on that car whilst we were up at cowdie, did u see the cage as well!!!!!! Was better than a Nascars cage! Splodge Posted June 13, 2006 Report Posted June 13, 2006 Noticed bolts on granny at cowide but never the cage. No wonder it never got out of pits!
Jay404 Posted June 14, 2006 Report Posted June 14, 2006 Like was mentioned above by Mitch, there are some galleries of Surrey Street Squad and the Suicide Squad so i would imagine they have pics from the firecrackers! Blockbusters however i dont reckon as most of his 'old' pics are from 80's and very early 90's,anything after that are taken by him at meetinhs he goes to and will be in the New stock car pics section. Cheers again
erik Posted June 14, 2006 Report Posted June 14, 2006 Noticed bolts on granny at cowide but never the cage. No wonder it never got out of pits! What is it these tracks have against roll cages in bangers? I remember reading about a driver from Crimond who wasn't allowed to race in the Banger World Cup due to him having a 4 post cage. I think at Crimond this is allowed, only nothing further back than immediatley behind the driver's seat. So there is nothing to stop the back of the car coming in on you. I remember the back of the car nearly coming in on a driver once. Had the hit been the slightest bit harder, he could have been seriously injured. I would probably do bangers next season if it weren't for this lack of driver protection allowed.

Erik you ever herd of a H Frame, they are there to stop the driver from getting hurt if the car was hit from behind!!! Sash
erik Posted June 14, 2006 Report Posted June 14, 2006 Some how I don't think they would. And what stops the front part of the roof coming in on you if the car rolls?
sashjag Posted June 14, 2006 Author Report Posted June 14, 2006 Some how I don't think they would. And what stops the front part of the roof coming in on you if the car rolls? Easy you stick a piece of metal from roof to the bonnet. LIke this.. Oh and a H Frame does save you from getting hurt, it is a huge and heavy piece of matel!!!! Sash
