theboss Posted December 6, 2006 Report Posted December 6, 2006 OK, enough is enough, my trusty old PC just cannot handle the game. I regularly get a warpy type of issue where all the other cars jump and hop about like mad, slide sideways round the track and the game in general is very jumpy and slow. So I am going to buy a new PC, purely for the game as I will be building a seperate one for work. I am aware that Dual Core is a must, but what else should I be looking for to run the game smoothly? What is the perfect system for the game? Remember, the new system will be purely for the game, nothing else. So tons of memory space isnt a major requirement.
kendo912 Posted December 6, 2006 Report Posted December 6, 2006 Not sure what PC you have for the game then...mine is about 4 years old and cost me about £200 so it's the basic of basic ones. I turn down all of the graphics options, sound options etc etc. and it's all fine. I'm sure i've read on this forum b4 that people have had problems with dual core processors and the running of Nascar heat so u might want to have a rummage through the posts on here. If the other cars are jumpy then sounds like u have a warp issue to do with your interent connection.

If you wanna buy a gaming PC they can be very expensive for a range topper, how much is your budget? then you can work out what you want.
Guest Scrapman53 Posted December 6, 2006 Report Posted December 6, 2006 I don't see the need for dual processors unless you are doing 2 processor hungry operations at once. Lets face it, how many times are you likely to do that? I've recently upgraded to AMD Athlon64 3700 socket 939 single core processor, DFI Infinity SLI motherboard and a 2nd hand Geforce 7800 GT graphics card which I got from Ebay for £100. The boards and processors are going dirt cheap just now as the new AMD platform is called AM2 (instead of Socket 939) and runs with faster memory. There's not much of these processors left now as they've been phased out, but mines with 2gb of memory runs Rfactor at nearly full detail at 1024x768 with Anti Aliasing and Antistropic Filtering turned up to full whack(settings on the card software itself). If I turned them down to aplication controlled in the card software, I'd probably get full detail at 1280x1024 in the game, but I prefer everything to look silky smooth so just leave the card settings at max. Another good thing about the motherboard is that I can add another identical graphics card later on when games progress a bit and I can't run them on as good detail. A system like this will run heat at max detail and future proof you a bit as well if we do eventually change over to RFactor for our base game. Hope this helps m8.

Mine is coming up to 6 years old Yeah I thought maybe the internet connection, but everything else seems fine, I mean I never get cut off or anything silly like that. MSN messenger can be slow at starting sometimes and regularly freezes on startup.
theboss Posted December 6, 2006 Author Report Posted December 6, 2006 Just done a speed test (or 2) and these are the results, in order of time done. The download bit doesn't seem right, and the Latency can be a little high at times. This isn't good is it?
kendo912 Posted December 6, 2006 Report Posted December 6, 2006 The speedtest results are showing that you have a 0.5 meg broadband connection (as i understand it anyway) which would suggest that at peak times your connection may drop down lower if your on adsl rather than cable conenction. Allan268 on here pays for a 10 meg connection and has the speedtest results as his signature with the download speed at 9500 (so a conneciton of 9.5 meg) I have recently changed to an upto 8meg conneciton from BT but the best my phone line can handle (amongst other factors aswell) is about 1.5 meg but then it does drop during peak time time of 7pm to 10pm so my download speed is usually around 1400 hence a 1.4 meg connection. Make sure you've got end it all and do all of the suggestions form the ukdirt website about warp and it may help some aswell but, realistically your probs of cars hopping and jumping about may be to do with your broadband speed. Having said all of that i'm sure there's quite a lot of peeps on here that have half a meg connection aswell without any probs.
Allan268 Posted December 6, 2006 Report Posted December 6, 2006 Just putting a post in here so my sig is viewable.
