Gearbox Change

Hi All,

 

This is a long shot request.....but I need to swap the gearbox in my 1300 Stock Car (as I broke the existing one at Ipswich 10 days ago!)....however this involves removing the engine as the chassis bars are located about an inch below the box.  The problems are 1) I've never removed and engine before (but willing to learn!) 2) I've never swapped a gearbox before (but willing to learn!) and the main one 3) I am struggling to find anyone with an engine crane who is willing to help on Sat Morning this coming weekend.

 

I am based in Tunbridge Wells, but want to if possible swap the box and get the car to Ringwood in time for the meeting at 7.30pm.....therefore anywhere between these locations would be great.  The majority of the engine bay is ready with the rad out, electrics removed, rope removed, bar into cockpit removed so time is not wasted there.

hello m8 if u cant get a engine crane then if u get a strap and wrap it round a bar so the weight of the engine is on it and roll it up till it touches the wings.

Then un bolt the engine and if u had 2 off ya u could lift it out by hand  then u can unbolt the gearbox and change for the new one, while apart if i was u i would check thrust bearing and clutch as would be a pain if one went after u put it back together.

to put the engine back in put a jack with a peace of wood under where the engine would sit then u can lower it onto the wood and u will be able to adjust the height to line your engine mounts up.

If you can't find anyone else i'll help you out no problem, I've got an engine crane so thats ok, Im in andover about 50 miles from ringwood, you'll pass it on the way through, only about ten mins from A34 or A303, Im also going to ringwood on saturday aswell.

 

I'll speak to her in the morning    and send you an email with some more info.....

Knobby - who you calling Knobby? lol  Knobby also races same formula, but is not me lol (he wins races!)
