Mr Beef Posted January 26, 2008 Report Share Posted January 26, 2008 Hi I have 2 hard drives on my pc. My main drive "c" is a sata drive and is fine. I have a 2nd drive "d" which is an IDE drive, this should run at DMA mode 5, but keeps dropping to PIO mode. I use this drive as a storage drive and when I go to convert an AVI file to DVD or extract rar files, when it has dropped to PIO mode the programs i use run really slow this is how I know it has dropped into PIO mode. When this happens I have to uninstall the device and reboot which returns it to DMA mode 5. What I would like to know if someone can help, is why it drops to PIO mode and can anything be done to prevent this from happening.
