Hi people,

was wondering if anybody can help.  I have picked up the " startpage.19.j " virus/trojan and having serious problem getting rid of it.

I have used my Anti-virus which has supposedly removed/ healed it on several occasions.  I have also used ad-ware to remove it also.  I also followed the intructions on the symatec secrurity response website to remove certain things from the registry(althought there was nothing there that matched them).

I have now spent a large number of hours trying to remove it and it's seriously beginning to p*** me off.

Any help would be hugely appreciated as I was wanting to come join in the banger praccy tonite but won't until its sorted.

Many thanks in advance

OH! I'm using windows Me and disable system restore a while ago due to stupid viruses hiding there.

What Anti Virus you using Mike?  you could always use the housecall trend micro online scanner and see if it will get rid of the problem, find it here

Do you know where abouts the Virus is? you can always locate it yourself and delete it....dunno if any of this will help, but worth a try....

GL getting rid of it

I used to get one which was backed up with system restore, so just kept spreading every time it was deleted. Funny how system restore is there to help your pc but can actually cause it problems. Its risky business but i deleted all my system restore files (mycomputer>properties), turned it off and then did a virus check, got rid of it then turned system restore back on.

Might help, but like i say, risky.

Cheers MoR

Thanks MoR, don't use system restore anymore due to the moving viruses in there. got rid of them the last time disabling it so left it off.

Mike,

Turn your PC off and boot up in safe mode (press f8 when computer is loading) this will give you access to a few things, run your Antivirus in safe mode and see if it will delete it for good, or try to remove it manually again.....other than this I'm out of ideas.

Thanks again Cunny,

Unfortunately safe mode renders My mouse useless, which I mange to work off the keboard okay to a certain extent.  I can load my Anti-virus but for some reason it won't run a scan in safe mode.
