Coloured Templates?

With the grey templates i can easily paint the colour i have chosen using an overlay, however with coloured templates i cant get the colour i want:

 

For example, on this hearse i used a yellow brush:

 

Does anyone know how i can get a specific colour?

Select the body layers panel and press ctrl+u

move the sliders to make the layer grey, then paint it as usual
