  1. Was an ok meeting tbh but it has loads of potential, 10 pm starts will not last long IMO.

Only way I can see this working if it was to alternate with the BLegends as its the same style of driving but that aint gonna happen in the short term so its back to the drawing board banghead2.gif

Macs spot on when he says shorter tracks for these type of meetings 042.gif

  2. Having any kind of data other than the game transferring is going to affect your ping, and therefore your race (and that of other drivers near to you).

If your typical ping is 50, that means you should be sending/receiving data from the server 20 times per second.  If your maximum virtual speed at the end of the straight is 70mph, that equals 31.286 metres per second.

If one of those twenty messages is interrupted, your virtual car will have travelled 3 virtual meters without the server knowing what to do (normally it's 1.5 virtual meters, but the server just missed a message).  If the server can only get 2.5 messages from your client per second (because your ping is 400), that's potentially 12.5144 virtual meters between messages at 70 vmph (virtual mph).  So the server has to use some kind of prediction, and it seem to me that that prediction mainly involves taking your current direction and speed (vector and velocity) and factoring in what way your wheels are pointed/what impacts should have been calculated from contact.  It all adds up to a horrible mess on a short oval contact formula- on the big ovals, that kind of prediction is probably little different to where the car would be anyway, as there's not much in the way of sudden direction changes on a superspeedway.

Having any kind of other internet service running spells trouble- most game data and instant messaging data uses UDP for the main part, which has a lower priority than TCP.  So UDP packets fight for a place in the queue (your race vs MSN downstairs) then something sends a TCP packet and all the UDP packets get hit with a large cricket bat and knocked into oblivion.  By the time the queue has settled, or the next packet got through to the server, you've warped five other people into the dog track at Coventry.

  3. My final point is that you do not pay for membership to UK-Dirt, that is free.  The fee that people pay is to be able to use the Jolt servers. They are not free. If they were, then there would be no fee for members to pay.  Please also remember that not too long ago we ran leagues outside of Jolt to enable free racing. Due to the improved racing experience on Jolt the decision was made to move all the leagues onto it meaning we did no longer provide free racing, but that does not mean that there won't be any in the future either.

Paying the Jolt fee does not give enyone an automatic right to have a say on how the league is run.

Will there ever be a detailed balance sheet shown to the contributing Jolt payers to show us how much money comes in per year and how much the Jolt Servers actually cost us to rent per year? shrug.gifshrug.gifcoffee.gif

  4. Pedz, the Brisca Heat website was hosted by RSC. But as RSC has gone down the link doesnt work anymore.

Btw it would be nice from the Admin to tell what has happened and what is going on atm with RSC and the forum

What is there to tell Dragon? RSC servers went down on the 7th of December without warning as they had (I think) been hacked, and they will not be hosting our website any more and as such we have had to revert back to our original back up site that we had been using, there is still some work to do until it is fully working again.

As for the forum, Kev had been developing his own site which covers mainly f1 stats and pics but it also had a forum on it and after discussion he agreed to host as a temporary measure, however we have decided to use this forum as a permanent forum as we had been discussing the possibility of moving to our own forum due to the slowness and and the amount of downtime the RSC forum had.

Hope that covers everything for you, if not feel free to ask again , im sure you will.

    thanks, the ego mad.gifmad.gifmellow.gif
