watto Posted February 5, 2008 Report Posted February 5, 2008 Sorry All, Am really puzzled but thought as I couldn't find a simple solution I thought it best to withdraw from the meeting so as not to ruin anyones enjoyment. Prob better posted on Computer help but basically nobody thought I was warping but as praccy went on cars were floating. I joined the meeting - Ping of 32 when I signed in. Just about to roll and I dsco'd - hadn't lost my net connection so unsure what had happened Hope you all had a good one and it didn't cause Counter too many issues with GN's etc. Turned my anti virus back on after I quit and it immediately started a scan and found 3 security risks. After recent events am now concerned about turning off the anti-virus stuff to race. Could it be linked? Thanks and cya all soon. Watto

Rikard Posted February 5, 2008 Report Posted February 5, 2008 Turned my anti virus back on after I quit and it immediately started a scan and found 3 security risks. After recent events am now concerned about turning off the anti-virus stuff to race. You should be very careful when turning off internet security, unless your offline of course. If you ever do turn it off, at least make sure you have a Firewall still active and run scan after. Plus make sure all important files are backed up and safe.
watto Posted February 5, 2008 Author Report Posted February 5, 2008 Rikard, Thanks for the reply - I only turn things off as per the guide to connecting to the server found on the uk dirt homepage: ( As follows) Connecting to Super-Server There isn't much difference between practice nights and race nights. The procedure is pretty much the same with exception of the chat and that the race manager will tell you where to go. On race nights everyone follows the following procedure: * At the advertised start time we all meet up in the UK-Dirt IRC Chat Channel(configuration details available to members). * The grids for heat races will be available to members on the forum, on the day of the meeting. The race manager will tell people when and where they should go for races. You must be a member to view the actual IP adress and the server password. * When told to go and race, close everything down: o Chat. o Firewalls. o MSN. o Virusscanners including the automatic updates. o Windows updates (automatic). o and any other programs that you have running which uses bandwidth. o You should consider using EndItAll to close hidden programs. * When in game, at the first menu, make sure that your name and number are entered in the bottom right hand corner, and click on MULTIPLAYER. So should this not be done? Any help appreciated
crewie Posted February 5, 2008 Report Posted February 5, 2008 EndItAll dosnt actualy tell you which programs you need to keep running. Ive used an online pc scan: http://pcpitstop.com/default.asp which once has scanned your pc, will then post several reoprts on your pcs status, including a report on what programs you have running on your pc, which ones are essential, and those that are not always required. By using that report and a bit of trail and error you can minimise what runs on your pc whilst racing. Hope that helps you out some.
watto Posted February 6, 2008 Author Report Posted February 6, 2008 Crewie, Thanks for the help - have run the test - which part of the results is key for me? Ta
