Grasser233 Posted April 25, 2008 Report Posted April 25, 2008 (edited) Hi, For those of us who are not using mega super duper PC/'s, this is a great tip which improves both the look and performance of the game. First off a quick warning, this involves editing the .plr file and and any alterations to this is at your own risk. If in doubt, back this file up so you can redo any changes. Ok, if you reduce the detail of the opponent cars in rFactor to anything lower than full you notice it will also fade out/blur the skins up so they aren't showing in high res. Eg with this one which is set to low…. Well, with one simple alteration, you can have the car detail at low….improve performance of the game and have the skins running a nice quality like this one below which is once again set at low detail. Notice the difference So how do I do this….. well you need to open and edit your .plr file. This resides in your rFactor\UserData\"Your Player Name" folder. So, for eg, if your player name was Novice999.....the folder would be called Novice999 and the file inside would be called Novice999.plr. This file opens in notepad and is your personal settings for the game. Scroll it down to the [ Graphic Options ] section and look for this line Opponent Texture Override="-1" // For opponents' vehicle textures: -1=use Opponent Detail, 0-3=override value Change this "-1" to ="3" so it looks like this Opponent Texture Override="3" // For opponents' vehicle textures: -1=use Opponent Detail, 0-3=override value Your opponent skins will now show fine without any blurring at any detail setting. I personally have it at low now along with Effects at low and Shadows at medium. Happy racing Grasser#233 Edited April 25, 2008 by Grasser233
Lee Posted April 25, 2008 Report Posted April 25, 2008 Great one Grasser! sticky???? to help people like intended
splinter Posted April 25, 2008 Report Posted April 25, 2008 doesn't this just put the texture detail back up to full?
Grasser233 Posted April 25, 2008 Author Report Posted April 25, 2008 Yes, but the lods are much more reduced compared to the high level hence it runs much better. Even if you have texture detail on full in game it still reduces it with the car detail which overrides it.
