MiniFreak Posted May 23, 2005 Report Posted May 23, 2005 I've recently got a NetGear ADSL FireWall router - which i can't seem to host with -people can't connect... I can host fine with me freebie usb router, i got with tiscali - but i've now cabled the house with CAT5 so i can plug in anywhere via RJ45 and be up and running - no unpluging the router and phone line - then plugin in where ever... I've set the firewall to allow all - still doesn't allow people to connect - gettting a little embarrased as i'm a pc techy me self - and it has stumped me - lol... i check my ip with whatsmyip but it still doesn't allow people to connect... odd... Cheers
Grasser233 Posted May 23, 2005 Report Posted May 23, 2005 whatmyip.com isnt that good in my experience, Using ipconfig is a better idea and gives your "true"ip. Been a while since I hosted so I cant remember how to get that up Cheers Grasser#233
Yorick_H30 Posted May 23, 2005 Report Posted May 23, 2005 You need too Forward the ports in your router... read the manual for that....5000 5001 i fink it was... but i aint sure still havnt sussed mine out yet
MiniFreak Posted May 23, 2005 Author Report Posted May 23, 2005 aha - dos right? i'll give it ago - then i'll run whatsmyip to compare... hmmm odd - seems my ip when i ran ipconfig from cmd promt - its very similar to my routers ip - one digit out... my ip = 192.168.0.2 my router being 192.168.0.1 (default gateway)... yet whatismyip says its 80.43.81.217... i'm gonna try listening to the ipconfig - hopefully will test it shortly... unless anyone heres got a few minutes to assist - just to see if ya can connect - or try and ping 192.168.0.2 - cheers for assistance - if you can ping it what is the time taken? cheers again
Jrusselluk Posted May 23, 2005 Report Posted May 23, 2005 (edited) Hi, 192.168.0.2 is probably your network ip and 80.43.81.217 is internet ip. James Edited May 23, 2005 by Jrusselluk
wrighty496 Posted May 23, 2005 Report Posted May 23, 2005 Hi, 192.168.0.2 is probably your network ip and 80.43.81.217 is internet ip. James 17965 James is right, the 80.43 is the internet IP, the 192.168's are your network addresses - each machine on a network usually has an address of between 192.168.0.2 and 192.168.0.255, because .0.1 is the address of the router/gateway (i.e. gateway out). The Netgear router does have an inbuilt firewall, so thats probably restricting your ability to host to the outside world - log into your router as you did to set the internet connection to see how to disable the firewall. (we got a netgear too but never were the hosting types - its brilliant for everything we asked of it )
Allan268 Posted May 23, 2005 Report Posted May 23, 2005 Pfft .255 is the broadcast address so you def won't be using that
wrighty496 Posted May 24, 2005 Report Posted May 24, 2005 Pfft .255 is the broadcast address so you def won't be using that 17993 oops apologies lol .254 then
Hooty256 Posted May 24, 2005 Report Posted May 24, 2005 Hi Minifreak, If u still need help then add me to your msn messenger if u have it...u proberly need to forward a couple of ports from the router to your computer which is hosting the game. ive got the same router.
MiniFreak Posted May 24, 2005 Author Report Posted May 24, 2005 this is odd - i can't get pinged... Does anyone know what ports are used for bangers? i can connect to the jolts - fine - i can ping them, i can ping other ips aswell - but i can't get pinged... i selected the option to enable ping response but it made no difference... odd - really odd - i even set rules within the firewall to allow all in and out - but still no pingability - lol it's like being on the pull in sandles and socks - i just ain't happening... not sure if i'll have this grief with either a linksys wireless access gateway or even a ropey dlink hardwired router - has anyone got any of these routers - inc. the netgear with adsl? it seems cable users are bomb proof - no problems must be this pesky roaming ip along with a router thats acting as my dhcp server... i'm trying to get a response from my isp to see if they offer a fixed ip - anyone else use Tiscali adsl? receeding my hairline to beyond a joke with this... Cheers for all input currently recieved - much appreciated...
MiniFreak Posted May 26, 2005 Author Report Posted May 26, 2005 still stuck on this if added ports 5000-5001 still no joy
Hooty256 Posted May 27, 2005 Report Posted May 27, 2005 u want ports 2001 and 2005 m8 forwarded from ur router to the internal ip of the computer that is hosting Nascar Heat
MiniFreak Posted May 30, 2005 Author Report Posted May 30, 2005 right got that done - still no joy is it worth trying an alternative like a dlink or lynksys? which is easiest to get sorted? Cheers for assistance so far...
MiniFreak Posted June 2, 2005 Author Report Posted June 2, 2005 cheers for help all - it npw works - but my ping apparently is 200 - lol when people connect - thats what they see (example 200 6/43 MiniMack) - any ideas how to improve this - i'm using ADSL from tiscali - roaming ip - 1mb down - 256k up - xp sp2 - any thing - even if i can get it down to 100 - i would be extremely greatful - if its achievable... Cheers for support so far....
