The London Allstar Posted October 15, 2008 Report Posted October 15, 2008 Ok lads i want a new graphics card, firstly to make rfactor look a bit better but also to enable me to run Race Driver Grid and i dunno what i should get. Supported Graphics Cards ATI Radeon X1300, X1600, X1800, X1900, X1950, HD2600, HD2900, HD3870 NVIDIA Geforce 6800, 7100, 7300, 7600, 7800, 7900, 7950, 8600, 8800, 9800 Not compatible with all integrated sound/graphics solutions (inc.Laptops) Those are the requirements for graphics cards, currently mine doesent run RDG because my card isnt compatible with Shader 3 Anyone recommend anything? I had a look on amazon for the radeon x1300 and there was a few that came up, some for £100+ and some for about £40, why is there such a big difference in price as I couldnt see a difference between sepcification. Also i couldnt find anything to see which shaders it used. I want to spend as little as possible lads so dont go suggesting something for £300 lol Any help greatly appreciated!

Hutch#331 Posted October 15, 2008 Report Posted October 15, 2008 Download and run cpuz, then stick a screen shot up of cpu and mainboard info
Hutch#331 Posted October 15, 2008 Report Posted October 15, 2008 The best card for the cash just now is the 8800gt 512mb OCUK or the cheaper 256 one at OCUK Depends how much cash you want to spend
The London Allstar Posted October 15, 2008 Author Report Posted October 15, 2008 CHeers Hutch, time to have a think about it!
Guest Scrapman53 Posted October 15, 2008 Report Posted October 15, 2008 CHeers Hutch, time to have a think about it! I wouldn't think too long about it. At that price it'll be a case of "when they're gone, they're gone". This price is just to clear the ones they have left in stock as the 9800s are out and they too are coming near the end of line. I have a 512 8800gt and it runs rFactor flat out at 1280x1024. I have to turn a few settings down to run it smoothly at some tracks with some mods though, but nothing too serious.
Lee Posted October 16, 2008 Report Posted October 16, 2008 im running a 512 8800gt (asus one like hutch listed) runs my rfactor at full blast with only medium shadows and medium effects (find them off-putting on shale) on a 24" monitor at around 200+ fps
Lee Posted October 16, 2008 Report Posted October 16, 2008 (edited) To add to that, I just had a look at the prices and the 9800GT seems a similar price (cheaper and more expensive on some) to the 8800GT. Is it better than the 8800 as it seems to have same memory speed etc and cores???? http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct....s)%20-%20Retail http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct....s)%20-%20Retail Edited October 16, 2008 by Lee
drumbstick Posted October 16, 2008 Report Posted October 16, 2008 This site is good for comparison they are easy to understand and they keep they are kept up to date. http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/charts/gamin...-Score,794.html 4870 is the card to have at the moment if you can spend £160 4850 is you have about £100 although probably not worth the extra £20 over the 8800 if yu are just playing RF.
The London Allstar Posted October 16, 2008 Author Report Posted October 16, 2008 Cheers for all your help guys, I think il go fo the 8800GT http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct....s)%20-%20Retail Had a quick look thismorning to see if i can get a better price anywhere and i cant realyl find many places that do them. Anyone know of a good place to look or is overclockers about the best im going to get for the UK. I bought some RAM from there and ordered it at 6:30 on a thursday night and it came the next day so was well pleased.
The London Allstar Posted October 16, 2008 Author Report Posted October 16, 2008 Sorry for the double post, but Had a mate round this afternoon and was saying about getting a new card and he suggested getting this over the 8800gt as it had an added cooling solution from zalaman. Do you guys think this will be a better card as the chances are i'l be ordering tomorow so need to make a desicion http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct....s)%20-%20Retail
Hutch#331 Posted October 16, 2008 Report Posted October 16, 2008 There will be nothing in them between temps or performance they are cool running cards anyway, but my own personal prefrence i'd get the asus one Any problems with temps buy a decent 20 quid zalman as that heat pipe one dont look up to much anyway
Hutch#331 Posted October 16, 2008 Report Posted October 16, 2008 Make sure it comes with a 6 pin molex adapter whatever one your getting, the adapters 2 or 3 quid if it don't
The London Allstar Posted October 16, 2008 Author Report Posted October 16, 2008 Hmm Cant see anything about the 6 Pin adapter on overclockers, do you know if they come with them as standard from there or shall i start looking?
Pedz 212 Posted October 16, 2008 Report Posted October 16, 2008 i got a 4pin to 6 pin adapter with my last card but it was a msi card
matthew413 Posted October 29, 2008 Report Posted October 29, 2008 I bought the £50 PNY 256mb 8800 hutch linked to from overclockers, got everything set to max at 1280x1024 and it's fine.
The London Allstar Posted February 4, 2009 Author Report Posted February 4, 2009 Didnt buy the new card in the end as i couldnt really afford it, now xmas is gone and i've got a little bit of money saved im going to buy one, only problem is overclockers are no longer doing the 880gt that hutch recomended so would this card be suitible. Byt that i mean is it as powerful, is it compatible and most importantly will it play the games i want... Rfactor, Race driver grid and GTA 4 http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct....amp;subcat=1009
xTx Posted February 4, 2009 Report Posted February 4, 2009 GTA 4 is a bitch, i'm running a XFX9600 nvidia card with 4gb of memory and dual core processors and gta4 still wants to boot me online and runs glitchy etc, buy the best card you can and increase yr ddr too
xTx Posted February 4, 2009 Report Posted February 4, 2009 my new pc came qith a half decent graphics card that i replaced, i'll dig it out and let you know what it is.
Pedz 212 Posted February 4, 2009 Report Posted February 4, 2009 (edited) i put this in a lads pc last week and it nice card like, but any 9800gt will do the trick like 9800gt card Edited February 4, 2009 by Pedz 212
The London Allstar Posted February 4, 2009 Author Report Posted February 4, 2009 Is it definatly compaitble with my syster yes? If so its all set up ready to press the buy button so i should get it on thursday.
