Time to move on ??

Having been playing R Factor and seeing the obvious possibilities of modding it, not by me I might add  sign02.gif . Would it be worth taking the step of trying to mod another sim as nascar heat will inevitably become harder to find and I for one would love to be still racing online on the short ovals in another 10 years time. I know this would be a massive task and it isnt going to happen overnight but Don't you think it's time to move on ??  2.gif Flyinsi

Not sure rFactor's online ability is as good as Heat's, and it's fairly hefty on the PC spec I think.

I've no doubt someone will have a monkey around with it- especially if/when ISI hand out the tools to make things easier, so we would probably see then what its capable of.

Iam sure we will move on soon enough Si, how is r factor btw?? i played an early demo an the physics were a bit strange, is it worth buying??

Hi james RFactor is fantastic imho. The cars that come with the game are quite tricky to get the hang of but the F3 mod is stunning and tbh I think the modding side of things is what the whole project is about. Agree John you are gonna need a reasonable spec to play online but I have seen servers running 40 cars with pings of under 20. Also there is supposed to be an automic skin D/L facility within the game which when it becomes available could be a great way around skinpacks etc as every time you connect you will get the updated skins straight away.  2.gif flyinsi

Ive played rfactor a lot since it was released, and while its very good for some mods (esp f3) I think that heat has still the best net code going, the way our league runs with contact and close racing its the best we have.

I'd be cautious about moving to this mod or any other at present due to the net play offered by them, besides with the creation of heat essentials their is no reason why we cant be using heat as a base for a while yet.

Test Drive: Eve of Destruction was the last game MGI made, according to their website, www.mgiracing.com

rFactor- not much damage that I've seen, and as Albertz mentions, there's a lot going for the current Nascar Heat game- it's basically free now, with the essentials package, and the net play is one of the best to this date.

That being said, Stu "Madcowie" who made some of my favourite tracks for Nascar Racing 2003, posted recently on our old RSC forum about doing something with rFactor. I pointed him towards these forums, but haven't checked since. If there are enough people with the talent and interest to make one track and one chassis, then you've got a mod you can race with.

I have done a couple of races with madcowie and he is definatley interested in doing stuff with RFactor and like you say he is a great track builder so maybe when the track making tools are released it could be worth bunging in a few requests. As for Mr G I hope he's slaving away coz GTL is looking fantastic judging by the demo

Isn't there a 'recent' update of Nascar Heat, that we currently use? Nascar Heat 2 or something like that? coffee.gif

I'm sure I seen that Infogrammes took over Hasbro Interactive, so there won't be a follow up from Hasbro. Whats the chances of Infogrammes doing a follow up and releasing the tools? (Not likely I suspect) sad.gif

It's Monster Games (MGI) who actually made Heat; the last game they did was Test Drive: Eve of Destruction.

Si- Even if all we can get is one 1/4 mile oval, it's something to race on and we can experiment from there. Definitely worth pursuing, I think.

[PR] New DIRT Racing Games to be Developed [30-09-2005 | IS | Comments (1) ]

NORMAN, OK, September 30, 2005: DIRT MotorSportsTM (DIRT) (OTCBB: BMSR) and Planetwide Games, Inc. have announced a licensing agreement to develop and publish a line of video games based on DIRT's national and regional touring dirt track series including the historic World of Outlaws Sprint Series®. These action motorsports racing titles will be powered by Planetwide Games' innovative online technology development engine for Multiplayer Online Games (MOG) for competition and a variety of console game formats to capture the exhilarating world of dirt track racing with the "Outlaws".

The World of Outlaws Sprint Series Video Game featuring the drivers of the Mean 15TM for 2006 is scheduled as the first release. This game will immerse the player into the excitement and drama of dirt track racing through the world of interactive entertainment. This interactive racing world will be complimented by the Multiplayer Online Game action and allow gamers the chance to simultaneously experience life in the driver's seat of the true dirt track racing culture of the World of Outlaws Sprint Series. These new games will advance the World of Outlaws past the levels previously achieved with the 2002 Playstation video game.

"We are extremely excited about the power of the World of Outlaws brand and their loyal fan base," said Kevin Donovan - President of Planetwide Games. "Outlaws is a natural fit to showcase Planetwide Games' next generation video game reality engine. This engine will give the gamer the unique opportunity to experience game play that is truly the World of Outlaw Racing. Our reality engine will also allow the gamer to customize their sprint cars, view the race from the racers perspective, and experience dirt track racing from the starting line all the way to checkered flag directly from the driver's perspective. Through these motorsports games, new opportunities abound with our global strategic partnerships, new channel partners and the potential for new in-game advertising in the World of Outlaws".

Online players will be able to test their skills as they create a customized sprint car designed to outperform and outlast the competition from local racers across the country and worldwide. Even drivers who smoke the track one weekend will still have to spend long hours in the garage to stay on top of their game. With 28 years of hard-fought history behind it, this grass-roots "outlaw spirit" is what the success of the real-life touring series is based upon today.

Lets hope that it has realistic dirt/shale physics engine and that it can be modded if a PC version is planned.

I remember a while back i think Freddy was looking at FlatOut as a possible replacement.

having just played the game i love it. whel damage and decent back end racing, damage looks good an all. there are plugins for this game as i already have them for zmodler 2

has this game been blown out the window as a possible replacement?

If you go to your ukdirt banger folder and look for a file called 'options.cfg' right click on it and select open with and choose notepad.  scroll down the page till you see 'vertex damage no' and change it to 'vertex damage yes' and save when you close it.  Gives the bangers better damage, but don't use vertex online, slows the waiting time down abit
