Kane238 Posted February 5, 2021 Report Posted February 5, 2021 Thanks everyone for racing last night, yet another great teams meeting. Once the Heats were done it was the Nelson Tigers that came out on top with 99 points. Second was the Palmerston North Panthers on 92, Rotorua Rebels in third on 81 and making the Semi Final on their debut, the Wanganui Warriors came home fourth on 73 points, a very impressive showing first time out. We then said goodbye to the final four teams, in fifth were the Kihikihi Kings on 61 points. After a poor start, the Great British Lions clawed it back to sixth with 51 points. Last years Finalists, the Christchurch Glen Eagles with a disappointing show coming home in seventh on 45 and the Stratford Scrappers finishing in 8th place with 30 points. Semi Final time and up first was the Nelson Tigers against the newcomers Wanganui Warriors. After losing to the Warriors in the Heats, the Tigers knew they had to step up and finish the job in this one. It was the vital last lap move from Kane and TomD to stop the last runner, Shay, to get them the win and move into the Final once again. Semi Final 2 was between the Palmerston North Panthers and 6-time Champions, Rotorua Rebels. The race seemed to be over after a few laps when the Panthers dealt with everything that was threw at them and they took a comfortable win. Final time and the Nelson Tigers lined up pole with the Palmerston North Panthers to the outside. A great start by both teams saw a lone Tiger in the lead with 3 Panthers running closely behind. The Panthers dealt with the lead Tigers and the crucial blocker, Niall, turned his performance around from the Heat race and kept the Tigers at bay. Despite the Tigers efforts, they were a man down at the end of the race but the race was over well before then and Panthers took their first Final win.
