What Year, What Car?

I passed in 1995 on my 17th birthday...and got done for speeding 5 hours later...!! :king:

The copper asked how long I'd been driving for (he couldn't keep up!) and I lied and said about 3 months. He laughed about the short period I'd been driving and I'd been done already...good job I didn't tell him the truth

I thought I'd actually failed my test at the time, but ended up having one minor for "gears" or somethin??

My 1st car was an old mk1 XR2

...oh they were the days

I passed my test in 1992 a week after my 17th birthday, my 1st car was a 1000cc mini, I soon swapped all the running gear off a crashed 1275GT, put wide wheels, body kit etc on it. I got bored of that, so I brought a Mk5 'Tina (a proper car  ) The 'Tina eventually ended up on the Braintree banger track, next came two Mk2 Granny Ghia X's, the 1st one was eventually sold to the Gladiators, to race, the 2nd one is a show winning car and is now owned by my Dad ( Hi Dad, I know you read this lol ) I now own an ST24 Mondeo which I've had for about 6 years and the wifes car is a new Mini Cooper.

Passed my driving test in early 1985...

Had been driving around on my provisional with L plates since I turned 17 in my MK1 Escort 1.3 GXL!!!

Can still remember quite vividly going into my work the next day, as I'd taken a days holiday in order to sit my test and also hadnt told ANYONE...(just incase I'd failed ) as pleased as punch, whereupon the service manager at the local Ford dealership I worked then saying "perfect" you can go and do a dealer transfer and save me taking a time served mechanic off the tools.

I then had to drive a brand spanking new Escort Ghia through to our dealership in Edinburgh and swap it for a brand new Orion Injection Ghia!!

To say I was a touch nervous would be the understatement of the century but after driving through whilst talking to myself I somehow manged it incident free!!!

Since then Ive had a fair few Fordies(MK1s 2s Anglia,Cortinas Capris etc etc) and now with me "maturing" in years I'm now the owner of a 1.9 Diesel Scenic....... :coffee:

Well since you asked, mine was a 1960 Morris Mini Minor, as they called them then.

Cost £60 , no MOT and got it home to find a 4 inch rust hole in the passenger floor, under the carpet.

Kept it for about five years and had to replace almost everything.

You dont forget you`re first one though, car I`m on about.

Passed test at 17 thats about 1968/9 sold the car for £100

[attachmentid=9083]

The trophy was some thing from the local car club, probably worse hair style!

Passed when I was 17 in 1995.

First car was a 1.0 A Reg Fiesta which was a shed. The engine blew up after a while. Got it to a Ford Breakers to sell it for £150 but forgot the log book. So he check for chassis numbers which had been ground away and the car was a ringer  He gave me £75 instead to take it "under the counter".

Then had a 1.6GL Ford Sierra, which got nicked. Returned to a car park one night and all I found was the ignition barrel. Car never recovered.

Then got a 2.0 DOCH GLSi Ford Sierra which was cool. Got nicked again (nice place is Wisbech). This time was joyriders and the car was recovered from Wisbech Stadium (!), also had an attempted theft of it as well. Finally sold it to Gary162 on here!!

I now have a 2.0 Peugeot 406 Executive (the 2.0 petrol turbo version). It's really comfy and goes like thingy off a shovel, turbo pins you to the seat lol. Oh, and it's silver too...naturally!!

passed in 1991, in a transit. My first car was a 1275 GT mini of course.

Bought it at an auction for a £100 because it had a slight mis-fire, luckly for me someone had just swopped the plug leads (coff coff)

It was a bit of an oil burner though, and one night on the way to stockies i couldnt afford oil and petrol, needless to say it seized on the way there....

So it got an old 850 ministock plonko dropped in it, and sent back to the auction, sold for £250. (bargin)

Now driving a Pt cruiser CRD.

Passed Nov 1987, fortunately 1st time. Left work during the morning, only my boss & girlfriend knew and came back after lunch driving my own car  It was an old "W" reg (at the right hand side of the plate as you looked at it !!!) Ford Fiesta 1.1L, had it a year, then had a "C" reg Escort 1.3L, then had a brand new 1.4s Escort on 1/8/89. Sold it one year later to use the cash as a deposit for our first house. Driven a few different shared family cars since but we now run two cars I have an "R" reg 1.6L Astra since July 2003, whilst the misses runs around in an "R" reg 1.2L Corsa.

Taking about 1st time.... passed mine first time... 7 lessons and that included my test, in a fiesta, but found it easy in that considering, my dad took me out in his Mk1 1/2 capri, the bonnet on that thing was enough so driving a fiesta was a walk in the park...

Passed my test in 1987, my first car was a Talbot Sunbeam. That died when a little old lady kindly pulled out and T-boned me at a junction.

Since then had the usual array of MK1, 2, 3 and 4 escorts, Mk 3, 4 and 5 'tinas, MK2 grannies, MK3 capris, mk2 trummies plus loads of other bilge. Most of it all got raced or wrecked in some form or another

Now own one of them rice burning Impreza turbos, well it is supposed to be the family car.... and the missus has one of them roller-skate Ford KA things.
