The Calipers on the Capri were the Ford M16 calipers which were also used on Escort Mk1 & 2 along with Cortina 3,4,5 so they should all be inter changeable.

Nemesis239 Posted March 30, 2007 Report Posted March 30, 2007 You have bolted the doors but forgot one vital thing the Cage! lol Cheers
Tombo209 Posted March 30, 2007 Report Posted March 30, 2007 Realy you should put the cage in before you do anything like plate the doors up and tape the top of doors, its gives you more acess in getting the cage mounted in the right position mate. And have they banned putting a bolt through the middle of the door plates, heard you couldnt have a bolt sticking out but your aloud to weld a washer on the end of a length of studding?
leewoods18 Posted March 30, 2007 Report Posted March 30, 2007 and get the welder out if it int like a tank your at a disadvantage before the green drops
Rikard Posted March 30, 2007 Report Posted March 30, 2007 You have bolted the doors but forgot one vital thing the Cage! Cages are for wimps! Damo has the right idea
mcrew Posted March 30, 2007 Report Posted March 30, 2007 im building a capri for st day next week and it needs the front brakes replacing Damo, brakes are for wimps! Dont forget to run a bit of box along the top of the drivers door where the glass sticks out and weld it solid. And weld your corner plates solid along the scuttle panel/wing tops, them pesky Capris will snap if you let 'em.
dangerous damo Posted March 30, 2007 Author Report Posted March 30, 2007 couldnt put the cage in straight away as i had no wire for the welder to weld the floor up. ive solid mounted the engine, welded triangles on the bonnet, plated the footwells and where you mount the seat. ive now got the h-frame in and petrol tank. had to borrow a frame as the damn car is too short for my cage. all that wants doing now is wire it up, fuel line, pipe up the steam tank, fit the brake pads, fit the drivers door plate and paint/sign it.
pazza Posted March 31, 2007 Report Posted March 31, 2007 what are you going to do with all of the bits you stripped out? sell them on eBay as spares?
dangerous damo Posted March 31, 2007 Author Report Posted March 31, 2007 what are you going to do with all of the bits you stripped out? sell them on eBay as spares? me m8 nicked the bulbs and rear lights for his trailer but part from that all the bits are scrapped in the back of my last mk2. ive tried wiring it up today with my wiring loom from my mk2 which was a 2 litre pinto. all i get is popping and banging when it starts and is only on 2 cylinders: 1) i have connected the wire on the carb to the ignition as i assumed this was right thing to do? 2) does the 2litre ignition system run on the 1600 ( i have used coil, dizzy everything off a 2litre ) i then have changed everything back to original. ive got a lumenition box which has 3 wires going to the dizzy(which is points), one to earth, one to live on the coil, one to earth on the coil and one to the ignition switch and i have no spark. i have unplugged the 3 wires from the dizzy when i stripped it then reconnected them so: 1) i may have them the wrong way round or 2) anything else needed to run a points pinto engine? any help would be much appreciated. cheers, damo.
FbF 656 Posted March 31, 2007 Report Posted March 31, 2007 put a points dizzi in and a proper twin choke webber, be sorted then
mcrew Posted April 1, 2007 Report Posted April 1, 2007 ive tried wiring it up today with my wiring loom from my mk2 which was a 2 litre pinto. all i get is popping and banging when it starts and is only on 2 cylinders: 1) i have connected the wire on the carb to the ignition as i assumed this was right thing to do? 2) does the 2litre ignition system run on the 1600 ( i have used coil, dizzy everything off a 2litre ) any help would be much appreciated. cheers, damo. Sounds like you may have had a couple of leads on the wrong way around, or you may have had the timing way out. 2lrt and 1.6 ignition systems are the same, so there should be no problems with bunging a 1.6 dizzy into a 2ltr, or the otherway around. And take FBF's advise and lob a webber twin choke on it too .
dangerous damo Posted April 1, 2007 Author Report Posted April 1, 2007 thanks for the help guys. u hit the nail on the head crewie i had the firing order at 1-3-4-2 when it should have been 1-4-3-2 and i also had the dizzy 180 degrees out aswell. made some hellish backfire tho lol. it now runs sweet as after i changed a plug lead that was down. so on my checklist i can now put ticks next to: 1) hotel- check 2) transport- check 3) money- check 4) a running car- check 5) a complete car- not far off st day lock up your your farmyard animals cos mr dangerous is coming to town. woop woop! lol
