Jon606 Posted August 7, 2007 Report Share Posted August 7, 2007 This is like the third thread I've made on S.O.D., since the other two got deleted because I was advertising Anyway, what do you think the reasons are for the downfall of S.O.D.'s popularity? I mean, UK Dirt is a pretty good conversion of NASCAR Heat as it covers all the formulae that exist at the UK's short circuits, whereas S.O.D. only caters for bangers. If someone made an F1/F2 model for Carmageddon 2 (which S.O.D. is based on) then it could have a BriSCA Heat-style conversion made. Another point is that S.O.D. is a very old game (6 years old (I think)) and no one wants to make things for it anymore. The only one of recent times has been Marcel (Marsman208) and his site. If more people got involved in things like modelling new cars or tracks, then maybe S.O.D. could become more popular. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

mcrew Posted August 7, 2007 Report Share Posted August 7, 2007 Why would anyone spend the time and effort making an F1/2 and SSC conversion for the dated, but rated in its day, carmageddon, when the time would be better spent making mods for the far superior rFactor? Fair enough, the damage with SOD far excells the banger damage with heat, but the graphics are nowhere near as good as heat, and as Cal rightly pointed out, you cant play SOD online, even if there are rumours of online play for SOD in the pipeline, and theyve been around for ages, but without any back up yet. SOD was great in its day, but thats been and gone. Dalags If no-one on here knows who dalags is, basically he's some kiddy on Ovalchat who is insanely addicted to S.O.D. - he is so obsessed over it that he stays back at school and plays on it and when he downloaded it it took ONE WHOLE HOUR on the school systems. Also, whenever a new car/track is released, he acts like "OMG OMG OMG A NEW THING HAS COME OUT FOR S.O.D. OMGGGGGGGGGGGG!!!!!!!!!!!!111111111111" He has also made S.O.D. crash collections - see here and makes pointless videos about S.O.D., e.g. he has 4 videos of him rolling a Granada! And customisation? Don't even ask! Here are 5 skins he made: Marc Blower in a P5 Matty Threkeld in a Granada Estate Glynn Platts in a P4 Rickey Finney in a Granada Hearse 'Mad Dan' Thompson in a DS420 Limo If you don't want to download them, then don't! Forum when I asked him about if he would ever play UKDirt: I played it once offline but it was sh*t. damage so unrealistic and as you say the cars just went flying over the crossover at wimbo. so i'd say NO !!!
