Squid Posted July 27, 2005 Report Posted July 27, 2005 (edited) Hi there! I was just wondering... I have just left school and when I find me a job (soon hopefully) I was thinking of buying a laptop to play Banger heat etc online. Im not really in the know about Internet connections and stuff like that, but would a wireless laptop internet connection be any good for racing online? Cheeeeeeeeeeeers Squiddy PS Anyone know where I can get a decent one from? Edited July 27, 2005 by Squid
Allan268 Posted July 27, 2005 Report Posted July 27, 2005 If you get a stable connection then it would be fine. You should shop around for a second hand laptop to start with. Only problem you may get is your graphics. Why not get a pc instead? You could have a pc built for the price a laptop will cost.

We already have one computer but is shared ie me, my mum & step dad, so i was hoping to get a laptop as it is a lot smaller?
Marcy_Boi#133 Posted July 27, 2005 Report Posted July 27, 2005 I got HP Pavilion widescreen laptop Top graphics on it for the games, and wireless network, top gaming, whilst laying in bed
Nick M48 Posted July 28, 2005 Report Posted July 28, 2005 I have an Advent 7017, It's not the most powerful laptop by far but does run heat online perfectly ok with a wireless connection, the spec is below to give you some idea of what you need, as has been said you need to make sure that it has a good graphics card most laptops don't, so pay special attention to that. CPU Intel Pentium 4 3.06 GHz (Northwood) BIOS AMIBIOS. Press the Delete key to enter. Memory 512 MB DDR SODIMM Hard Drive 30 GB Hitachi DK23DA CD Drive Slimtype COMBO LSC-24081 Screen 15" TFT (Native Res.1024x768) Video Card ATI Mobility Radeon 9000 64MB DDR Sound Card SiS 7012 audio chipset Modem SmartLink 56K modem Netword Card SiS 900 integrated fast ethernet
Squid Posted July 28, 2005 Author Report Posted July 28, 2005 Cheers for the advice NickM48. I am just trying to get enough information so that when I do eventually get Nascar Heat + addons I wont create any warp online. Cheers everyone (again) Squid
JohnMid Posted July 28, 2005 Report Posted July 28, 2005 Take a good look at Nick's spec- the crucial element there is "ATI mobility"- this means (however it compares to full desktop graphics) Nick's laptop has a proper 3d graphics chipset, unlike the utter pants that is Intel "Extreme". You'll pay for that (or there's the geforce Go chips I think), but if you don't I'd expect the laptop to be nigh on useless for games.
Allan268 Posted July 28, 2005 Report Posted July 28, 2005 Just to backup what John says, the intel extreme onboard graphics aren't very good. Nick's is an actual Radeon 9000 which is a decent card for a laptop. Nick: What do you mean it's by far not the best? Thats a pretty nice specced laptop compared to most that are floating about, any better and you start paying silly money. Squid: One thing, laptops are extremely expensive to upgrade in comparison to a normal pc as the bits inside are smaller obviously. basically the price to just upgrade a laptop would buy you a PC (self built) for the same price.
