Mav Posted April 10, 2015 Report Share Posted April 10, 2015 After loads of practice I was hopeful of a good score but the heats were hard work, thanks to two desperate yellows who wanted to hit the front as soon as possible. It slowed us both down allowing the field to catch and we then went backwards. We should have worked together and maintained a pace keeping ahead of the field, rather than pushing past each other every bend. My heat results were poor because of it and failed to qualify for the final, third time in four meetings! So some of it must be my driving! One of those yellows dumped me out in the early laps of the B Final, so 8th and well behind I had no hope, but clawed my way back and in the last few laps, courtesy of Wardy I was able to take 2nd place, so in my 3 B Finals I have had two 2nds and a 1st. I spoke to DanSkin on Saturday and said that having had a 3rd in the Grand National at Kings Lynn, followed by a 2nd at Birmingham last week, wouldn't it be great if I won at BV? Having had a poor meeting so far I never thought it could be possible, but when the aforementioned yellows were drawn in the other GN I lived in hope. BeesfanDanny and PaulE had a better chance of winning, and when the race started PaulE pushed past first bend - I thought here we go again! This time I followed, backing off every time Paul got sideways but staying close enough to capitalise on an error. Thanks to KBarker, the field behind me were slowed dramatically giving me time to assess what to do. Danny was ahead and PaulE had pulled away, so 3rd it would be! However I actually got a last lap correct for once and the front two went in together collecting Mike who had spun making a clear pathway to take the lead. I lead for a quarter of the lap, probably the most important quarter and took a win I never really thought was possible - That's why I was so chuffed to have won! Thanks for the meeting Toff and congrats on your GN win too, Well Done Josh for the A Final and 80pts Danny, that's brilliant! Hope you don't ask for anymore setups now you have a winning one! Enjoyed the meeting, my changes to my wheel mounting seem to have done the trick and it was a nice one to return to so thanks to Kris and all the fellow admin! lloydy89 Posted April 10, 2015 Report Share Posted April 10, 2015 Really good meeting again last night, think the racing has been really good so far this year so lets hope it continues. After trying to tweak last years setup during practice (even though it did me well last year) I thought Id got it set up nicely for the meeting only to go and have a nightmare first two heats (nil points), car just wasn't good enough in traffic and couldn't get away from any battles. Nothing to lose to get into final so changed back to last years setup for heat 3 and got a comfortable second. Final managed to get away and fight my way to the front with some good battles in between, only to get passed by josh with a few laps to go. Just couldn't quite keep a close gap to make the last bender, still had a decent try though lol. Wd done on the win josh!! GN again managed to get away from the blues and set off to catch Toff, passed him with 2 laps to go but he stayed with and got me on the last bend, fair play and WD on the win! So after no points in first two heats well pleased to get 72 points, don't think ill tinker with any of my proven setups again.
