big al 515 Posted September 6, 2005 Report Posted September 6, 2005 Hi lads I have a Duron 850 processor with an Nvidia Geforce2 MX 32mb graphics card. I have been offered someone's Nvidia GeforceFX 5200 128mb graphics card. Does anyone know if this would be compatible with my processor or how do I find out? Presumably the 5200 card is a fair bit better card than the Geforce2MX? Ta
Guest Scrapman53 Posted September 6, 2005 Report Posted September 6, 2005 (edited) I would think that'd be Ok Al. I put a 5500 in my bro's 1400 athlon. The 5200 is the cheapest GF 5 series and they don't cost very much new, so don't be paying much for it. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Sparkle-GeForce-FX52...1QQcmdZViewItem Edited September 6, 2005 by Scrapman53
JohnMid Posted September 7, 2005 Report Posted September 7, 2005 Al- check if your PC has an AGP slot for the graphics card- PCI was still a popular choice around the Geforce 2 era. Does your PC have a manual showing the motherboard info? 5200s are £25-£30 brand new.
big al 515 Posted September 7, 2005 Author Report Posted September 7, 2005 Hi John Yes I have a manual for the motherboard which I just dug out. The motherboard is ISUS A7V-E WITH VIA Apollo KT133 cHIPSET. It has 6 PCI slots. It also has 1 AGP Slot. Is that the one where the GEForce 5200 would need to go then? Incidentally, my mate is updating his pc and he says I can have the 5200 for free once he puts the replacement graphics card in his.
Ray 21 Posted September 7, 2005 Report Posted September 7, 2005 It also has 1 AGP Slot. Is that the one where the GEForce 5200 would need to go then? yes AL thats where it goes think it should be a brown slot
JohnMid Posted September 8, 2005 Report Posted September 8, 2005 Sounds good- the 5200 is bottom rung, but it's on a ladder that's a couple of floors up from the 2MX.
