Grasser233 Posted January 31, 2018 Report Posted January 31, 2018 (edited) Welcome to the 2018 Teams Championships! This year’s Teams Championships looks to be hotly contested this Thursday. All the teams look on paper to be strong and for this year, we have 6 teams compared to last year’s 4 teams. This makes qualifying for the semi-finals very difficult and it looks like we are in for some epic clashes in the heats. Going through the team line ups, we start with the favourites, The Rotarua Rebels. Comprised of the usual Netherlands based line up of Marten, Mike, Tsjalle and Frans, they will start the meeting as our reigning champions. All have won races with Frans excelling in the NZ Champs by earning 2nz and this group tends to race as a team during regular meetings so are well practiced for this sort of event. They will be very difficult to beat, especially in the later stages of the meeting. Surprise finalists last year and runners up, were the Wanganui Warriors with regular drivers Grasser, LeeK, and Toff being joined by banger front runner Dode. This team consists of the top 3 in the National Points with Grasser and LeeK both winning finals this season and Toff being the main front runner in the NZ Championships so the consistency is there. Some added helpings of carnage from Dode could propel the self-anointed “Team Fun” to the top step! The Warriors beat one of the mainstays of team racing in NZ’s last year, The Nelson Tigers. The usual 3 of Kane, DanSkin and TomD are joined by the new 1nz for this year in Wardy. On paper, this is arguably the “Super” team of year. Kane hasn’t done all the meetings but has won a final, a survivor and multiple heats already, Dan made his return last week, leading the final convincingly for the majority while TomD has been a one car wrecking machine in every meeting and featuring on many a poster with his outrageous hitting. Add Fake Wardy’s speed into this and we could be looking at new champions here! Another strong driver line up is in the new roster for the Palmerston North Panthers. Crashley has been one of the most improved drivers in the league this season, winning a final early on. CB in the legendary 0r machine has been specializing in the Survivor races winning 2 so far while Wardieee has only done a handful of meetings but looked quick in the races he finished. They are joined by Lloydy who has not raced so far but is our reigning World 240 Champion and knows how to race these cars. A strong line up, and one that should take them to the semis. We have two new teams for this year. The Kihikihi Kings are made up of some of the mainstays of the league and has been put together by Dane Bell who is joined by Barker, Bryan Lee and Hoggy, who has yet to race this year, joining the team. Barker and Bryan have certainly been amongst the hardest hitting drivers this year and this is potentially a strong combination if they can work as a team. Finally we have the Baypark Busters who is comprised of some of our newest members led by HGR who I’m not sure knows what’s going on in races at times but will certainly have a team ethic for this one. He is joined by Tom Davison who has raced regularly this season with HGR and Charlie Boast who has raced once this season and went on the crash quite effectively in that meeting. They are joined by Downforce UK’s finest in Jake Sanson. Jake raced the opening meeting and did pretty well considering it was his first meeting in anything in UKDirt and this is the hardest league to start in. Can Jake adapt to team racing in the same way? An interesting line-up, Can they spring a surprise? So that’s the runners and riders, we shall see tomorrow who comes out as the champions!
