Possibly knackered the engine/steering/suspension after giving the jag the big one? Somthing not repairable at a track but easy once back at the yard. Not exactlly rocket science is it?
-
Silly question, but have you got NASCAR heat loaded already?
-
Thats well impressive! Add that to the A60 and the Anglia in use on TNB, and we could have an unders pre 70's meet.
-
Rikard, a Chavs diet consists only of Maccy D's, the rest of their money goes on fake gold chains and weed/larger. Oh and dog food for the Staffie!
-
When I see this thread now, it makes me think of the new 'Pimp my ride' advert with the four door nova/ashtray, with crap bolted to it.........nice sattelite dish!
-
I hope that post was made in sarcasm. Deadly serious me! Wanna borrow my 8 track collection of Disco hits? All that Tina needs is a red sidelight fixed to the back axle and its well fab and groovy.
-
Its not the tightness of burberry clothing that reduces your IQ, its the initial willingness to done that chav crap in the first place that does it. Please tell me that you dont tuck your tracky bottoms into your socks as well!!!!
-
WO dont need to say that Grab your coat Jamsey, it looks like youve pulled!
-
You guys obviously have NO taste! Thats such a retro-custom-classic. All it needs is one of those disco glitterballs dangling from the rear view mirror and an 8 track with some glamrock music blarring out of it. Grab yourself a pair of flares man and get down.

That looks well cool. I used to prefer it when they allowed different shells in SSC. Remember back in the eraly 90's someone used a 100e Ford Pop for a stock car, very different!

That is a discrimination on your behalf "use granadas, sierras,740s, 800 series". I think that racing MK1 Grannys IS a waste, as I think they are cool cars, I like MK2's, but Ive also raced my fair share of them, so what?. What IS a classic car? It is in the eyes of the beholder, I couldnt give a stuff about a westie or an A60, as far as Im concerned you can strip and race the lot of 'em, just make sure that a couple go in my direction though! Yes I have raced some ' classics', Trummys where ten a penny when I first started racing, and I wrecked loads of them! I had some that where far too clean to race, some even cleaner than my road cars, but hey, so what, I paid for them, so I did what I liked with them. I used to sell on some of the stripped parts, but TBH, most owners clubs are a bunch of tossers, because as soon as you aproach them and offer bits for spares, they expect you to give them the bits! I had a '63 Vauxhall Velox PB, that was much too good to race. I met loads of Vauxhall owners club members, and they all winged when I said that I would race it, but not one of them would dig in their pockets and save the car, in the end I scrapped it! IMO, if you can get a car cheap enough, and your desperate enough to race it, so what?! If it bothers you that much, get out there and start outbiding the banger boys!

just use a brick? Rikard, are you responsible for the attempted ' stripping' of some of the road cars near to where I live? I agree with Erick, racing classic cars is just such a complete waste of historic vehicles, that should be preserved for future generations to enjoy. Anyone detect the sarcasm in my last statement there?

'kin ell! I want one of them! I'll probably kill myself, but I want one all the same!

I had a Trummy estate that I raced on grass, and that was welded to bits. I spent 7 days, working from 8am till 9.30pm, welding it up, scaffold tube and box section up the inside of the wings, doors, across the front etc, and the bleedin thing still bent after a few hits ( mind you, I did peel the complete passenger side off a renault with it) . Unlike my normal cars, once this one bent, it would take me ten times longer to straighten it out again and 'cause it was so heavy, it would blow an engine every two meets! It was still fun while it lasted though! The lesson learnt was that where ever you armour them up, they bend elsewhere, and they are absolute pigs to straighten.

1. Matt, an 1.8 cvh is just a cvh with a magneto type thing sticking out of the wrong end of the head. its far quicker just to bash a cvh dizzzy in the other end of the head, after all, your not going to dish out much damage with a jelly mould! And yes it does work, we've done it loads of times. 2. Rikard, on most FWD cars, and some RWD stuff, the distributer is located towards the front of the engine, and is positioned in such a way that one good hit and it will break, so some promotions allow Dizzy Guards, but others dont, normaly for the following reason. A dizzy guard can often be a bulldoxer blade type contraption, that the majoraty of drivers will say is there to guard the distributer from crash damage, but more often than not, is there to try and assist with the strength of the car in some way ( armouring).
-
Alternatively, punch the blanking plug out of the back of the head, cut a hole in the bulkhead, and fit a cvh dizzy in the back of the head. No need for a dizzy guard, and you can always check if your leads are still on whilst strapped in!

Silly question, strip it 'n race it! Lost count of the stuff that Ive trashed, and was worth good money. Once I raced a 2.5 trummy at Newton Abbot, the car had been fully restored and the shell was absolutly spot on. I was going to use it on the road myself as it was that clean, but Tueseday night in the yard and it was " So what shall I race tommorow?" Hence one stripped minter of a shell. At the track, some weirdo kept following me round the pits offering me a big wad of cash for the shell, so just to spite him I went out and mullered it. Strange, but after the race he didnt seem so interested in purchasing it?

All said, tounge in cheek mate. I just think its pretty bad for all concerned, especialy the good of the sport, when two promotions running as close together as these two do, have a disagreement/falling out/chuck their toys out of the pram with each other or whatever you want to call it. Like I said, I think St Columb/Westworld is a FILTERED hot track for both drivers and spectators, its a real shame that the two S/W promotions cant sort their differences and concentrate on making the S/W banger scene the sucsess that it could be with a combined effort. The sport has enough track closures/Insurance /Health and safety issues, with out promotions being at each others throats as well.
-
Hard to find? My mates weighed in, within the last couple of months, 3 manual volvos and sold on a very clean and up and running xj40 for scrap/spares money. Hes also got a manual 2.8 series 3, which he picked up for pennies, with tax and test. Then theres the 4.2 series two which Im trying to barter out of him.
-
I have to agree entirely, St Column has to be THE top South West track to race at, from both a driver and spectators point of view. You can throw as much infield infill and white paint as you want at St Day, but at the end of the day, its still a sh#te hole. I cant honestly ever see Westworld or Autospeed burying the hatchet, and kissing and making up, which is a real shame, as between them and Bristol they could put on some pretty impresive interpromos like the old days of St Day v Autospeed v Bristol. Clashing meet dates is just pure stupidity!
-
Maybe if the promoters tried to come up with their own original name, they could think of somthing quite unique. Heres my attempt " The rip off of a well known large unders and seperate overs meeting combined on the same day, copied from a promotion based not a million miles away, South West Open Banger Championships "? Kinda catchy dont ya think. They may have to make the race program cover slightly larger just so they can get the title on it though!
-
Bilge-tastic! That said, I had a maestro in the yard a few years back, and it was suprisingly hard. We snapped the front pillars on a raced granny with it and lent the front chassis legs of a fresh volvo across with it. Dont know if I would be brave enough to race one properly though.

£ 200.00! Most I ever paid was £ 150.00 for a 2.3 manual cortina, and thats only cause the previous owner had fitted a racey cam and a new set of pistons and rods. The last granny I bought only cost me £ 80.00 and that was a 2.3 manual, and when I got that back to the yard, it turned out to be a 2.8! Bonus. Cheap motors are around, they just take an awful lot of detective work to find, and it helps if you dont have a race deadline to meet for a certain type of car.
