I can't find a link that helps with car set ups. Can anyone point me towards it please, or if not can anyone give some advice? I'm having real trouble with both F1 and F2 cars, they just don't want to go around the corners! All they seem to do is a complete slide sideways in to the fence, I don't mean the back end is kicking out I mean the whole car. I don't even get chance to try opposite lock out of the corners because it just won't get that far. They seem to be driving more like a front wheel drive car that has been pushed too hard and the whole thing just heads for the fence. If I slow down enough to get round I just get battered by the other cars.

Any advice please?

Thanks... Jon T.

Other cars? If youre racing against AI (offline), dont bother m8.... Its best to use your offline time on the track on your own... The default setups are very good in the F1s.... Learn to drive the car without changing setups.... Do a million laps and youll get the hang of it.... Thats what we all did.....

OK Murf, I'm sticking with it for now but I can't get the damn things round corners at anything over 35mph or as I said, they just head straight for the fence. I can't see that it's a problem with my equipment either because I don't seem to have any problem at all with any other mods I have installed.

Jonnie, Murf is pretty much spot on with what he has said. also worth mentioning that this mod is a sim so get yourself a steering wheel and pedals if your not running with one already.

gamepads tend to be pretty much full on when you hit a button, so if you imagine driving a real car and flooring the accelerator, you wont be surprised if it spins round or goes sideways. the same is said for the brakes - if you floored your brake pedal the front wheels will lock up and you wont turn into the bend, but rather slide on towards the fence.

F2's are much easier to drive in my opinion, so it may be worth starting with them and move on to the big f1's once you can handle it better?

Tosh has very kindly posted his f2 set ups a few weeks ago, so do a search for them in the rfactor f2 section of the forum. Tosh is a superstar grade driver, so you wont get much better set ups than that to be fair. Other than that its as murf says - keep doing the laps as practise makes perfect.

Drumbstick also sent me the above link recently which explains about adjusting set ups. it is a long read, but will explain the physics side better.

Thanks for that Nezza, I'm going to read through the info at the link you've posted here later.

I'm already using a wheel and pedals, albeit an old set that I've had for around 10 years...haha. I'm having no trouble with the braking at all, my main problem is I can't seem to get the arse end to come out so I don't get the chance to put any opposite lock on round the bends. As I said earlier, the whole car just wants to slide sideways towards the fence. I've done an hour or so practicing around the Hednesford track this afternoon and as Murf predicted, you do seem to get better but there only seems to be one line in to the bends, if you hit it OK the back end drifts out quite nicely and you can hold it there ready for hitting the straight again by playing the throttle a little bit. I would have thought that with the power these things have though that you could send the arse out from any line you take instead of it just lurching towards the fence if you're any more than half a car width off line..... Anyway mate, I'll have a good look over the info you've suggested and keep trying, it looks a fantastic mod and I've been a fan of these things since the end of the 60's so I won't be giving up too easy..... in fact I got my time down from around 17.5 to 14.2 just this afternoon, probably still laughable by some standards in here but it's progress!....hahaha!

thanks again.... Jon T.

I have been racing for a 1.5 years now using a old sidewinder wheel that must be over 10 year old. With that i've been to blue grade with F2's and f1's and red with another mod not on here. a few things i have learnt are;

1. less is more - dont aim to the be the fastest. Take corners slower and tight to the kerbs and you can easily be quicker.

2. Again, dont try being the fastest - a good consistant time goes along way.

3. Be very smooth especially with the F1's. Slowly apply the power and same with brakes, being smooth can also knock that time down.

4. Having a setup from a fast guy may not make you any faster. Everyones driving style is different. Like the guys have said above, use the defaults and then make small tweaks as required.

Thanks for that Southy!... I reckon you are all right about this, offline my times are getting more consistant and I'm much happier with how the car is handling (some times....lol).

I'm on a ten year old sidewinder too mate, I first got it when the Geoff Crammond GP games started getting popular and never seen any point in changing it yet.

Make sure speed sensitive is at 0 controls/rates

What view are you driving ? f1 is good on bonnet and f2 incar

Use the default setups for f1 and move the steering lock to the max, adjust the brake bias to the rear more if you want it to tail out.

Try catch some of the lads in the server online, it will get easier once you see how they drive them and follow them around.

Good advice Hutch. It is amazing sometimes how much faster you are in a race than practice. At the last meeting I practice for 300-400 laps, then during the race i improved the average laptime by .100 of a sec and then the fastest lap was nearly .200. Definatly get on the servers when possible.
