his engine builder spotted purdys carb un soldered which makes absolute no difference to the performance when purdy won the british at taunton, surely he would have noticed he fitted a cross drilled cam in the machine?????? maybe too much cider?

I just asked my dad who is an ex-mechanic for 20 years.  He says an x drilled cam makes a car more free when rolling?

Either way if it does or it doesn't, he says it doesn't really give a big performance boost and is just a bit of a stupid risk.

Anybody technical able to shed some light?

Just like to put the facts straight here before it gets out of hand.

Danny did not know the cam was cross drilled. It was a total oversight on behalf of the engine builder. After speaking with him tonight, he is absolutely gutted, and would not have knowingly sent Danny the with an illegal engine.

The cam in question was one being tested by Danny and was possibly a F2 profile (where x-drilling is allowed).

There is NO power advantage to be gained by lubricating the camshaft by this method it just feeds the oil to where it is needed most.

I think the Saloons are possibly the in the minority of formulas that are not allowed to do this, and givin the amount of contact they dish out it does seem a little silly that they are not, for those that dont know the standard oil feed tube is very fragile and you normally know its broken when its too late and you've just done possibly a race with little oil going to the cam.

Thats me done, see you all soon.  scared15.gif

yes it would be a sickner, danny is prob feeling the same shitey feeling purdy felt just when the british was taking off him for the carb not being soldered, a stupid little things that doesnt give any more performance. Things even themselves out in the end though as we see. HARD LUCK TO DANNY AND A GREAT BIG WELL DONE TO THE EURO CHAMP KENNY PURDY

Shame a big race is decided like this, especially when there is no deliberate intention to cheat. Fair play to Purdie though. He used his bumper all weekend and does indeed deserve a major title after all these years.

Best wishs to Soaps from me as well. It was a dull one he took.

agree with you on that prydie thumbup.gif when a driver of any formula purchases a race engine from a specialist builder (and im not talking home brew stuff cos thats when you know when you are cheating) you pay top money for an engine which you believe is built to within the rules of your formula, danny bought an engine from a specialist who has been around  a few years now on the understanding it was legal, so danny isnt the cheat his engine builder is but unfortunatley who ends up with the ban or fine not the builder the driver shrug.gif

shaun brooker had the same scenario a few years ago in the supers after winning a major title and he was branded the same way
