  1. Personally I think a new system would be a better investment although you haven't said what graphics card you have. See my earlier post for what I would buy. Although it seems having anything other than a low end system makes you some kind of cybersnob.......
  2. Well I had the opposite evening and hardly saw anyone all night! Quite pleased to get that many points though
  3. It only crashed for me once most of the AI had wrecked their cars, never had any problems online.
  4. I've had that same crash happen, assumed it was just me...
  5. Im on about the graphics card heatsink not the cpu. Theres space in that case for a zalman graphics heatsink no probs.
  6. The old version is incompatible with any servers running the latest version. So you wouldn't be able to race online. How old is your old version?
  7. Its the metal plate the fans sit on. Its job is to spread the heat from the chip by increasing the surface area but if it's not making proper contact with the chip it won't do its job properly. You can buy 3rd party fans/heatsinks too
  8. Are you sure the heatsink is attached to the chip properly? Might be worth taking it off and putting some thermal paste on if you have any. Perhaps you now know why the card was for sale though...
  9. It's a good idea to have a reasonably modern computer, too.

Those are great Drum. How do you get the car from the transporter onto the ground though?
  11. And where is Speaky now? Simple fact is that in rFactor you can't follow people in as easily as you can in Heat, most times you come off worse than the car in front, and the standard and skill of driving is so much higher that you probably wouldn't be able to catch them up in the first place
  12. Could always buy a new case for a tenner from ebuyer?

  14. If it's a new Mac (using an Intel processor) they might be able to use Bootcamp to install XP. Otherwise they might be able to use some sort of emulation program to run Windows but they rarely handle games well. Heat might run though.

Work in progress, thanks to Drumbstick for the render.
  16. And by "it will run", I meant rFactor.
  17. Laptops are never ideal for playing games, but that one does have a proper graphics card. It will run, but not on full settings. How much is it?
  18. You should watch Murray Harrison!!
  19. If I'm in heavy traffic with someone quicker behind me I often let them past, that way they have to do all the hard work moving people out of the way and you nearly always get chance to go back past as they get slowed down. If I was in 16th and a lap down I would probably just sit behind the car in front unless I was loads quicker. They can always let you past rather than put up a fight... If I was 10th I'd probably try and get past as there's more of a chance of picking up a few points if there's a crash in front. If it's for higher places, particularly top 3 I fully expect to be hit (Paul!) - as would most people I imagine.
  20. Another good nights racing although I struggled from the very back at Bradford, it's such a long way to the front when everyone is so evenly matched! I thought I'd qualified 7th from the front, not the back which was why I chose Bradford for the final
  21. I've been helping a guy (remotely) get rfactor installed. We've got as far as getting everything installed and working, but can't get the thing to licence properly. It says activation successful, but then as soon as he loads rfactor it prompts him to buy it again. I'm thinking it's because something has cocked up the existing licence file. Has anyone tried deleting their licence file before? (in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Trymedia\licenses) Will it recreate one when we try and activate again. Bit wary because we've only got 2 activations left. Cheers.
  22. Yeah, that's what I was after, looks like an onboard graphics card (built into the motherboard). You're probably in the same boat as Crewesader - you could buy an AGP graphics card and some more memory but you'll only be able to run rFactor at low settings, or you could redo your whole system and be more futureproof but obviously you'll have to spend more money. It's a tough call!
