  1. Can you right click on My Computer, choose Properties, click the Hardware tab, click Device Manager, click the plus sign next to Display Adapters and tell us what it says:
  2. Post your spec up in a new thread if you like and we can have a look to help see the best options mate.
  3. True and I wasn't meaning to have a go, but most people buying that graphics card as an 'upgrade' would be mightily disappointed once they try and race in a 21 car final as I suspect it will be unplayable, even at the very lowest settings. The fastest AGP card I can see is an ATI X1950pro over at Scan.co.uk for £100 A cheaper option would be an NVidia 7600GS for about £50, but that will struggle on busy tracks. We're now at a point where there is little point trying to upgrade ageing AGP systems - you end up paying a 30-50% premium for mediocre parts. AGP is now obsolete and IDE disk drives are starting to become rare. Some people looking to try rFactor will need to face the unfortunate fact that you simply have to spend not inconsiderable sums of money every few years to keep a PC up to spec. If I were trying to upgrade to a reasonable spec for as little as possible I would buy the following: Intel Core 2 Duo E4500 2.20GHz Socket 775 800FSB 2MB Cache Retail Boxed Processor £77.75 Kingston 1gb DDR2 800mhz/PC2-6400 Non-ecc CL5 £15.00 Sapphire HD 3850 Pro 256MB GDDR3 Dual DVI TVO PCI-E Graphics Card £104.99 Asus P5L Socket 775 I945p onboard audio Fsb1066 SATA ATX Motherboard £51.82 Seagate 160GB Hard Drive SATAII 7200rpm 2MB Cache - OEM £28.86 All that would be £290 including delivery from Ebuyer.com You could skimp and get a cheaper motherboard or a non core2 processor, but you'd regret it IMO. Hope that helps someone
  4. I think that graphics card will struggle with multiple vehicles in rFactor if you want it to look decent. Don't assume that just because a graphics card has a higher number it is faster. For example, in 2001 I had a Geforce 2 GTS (cost over £200) which is probably still as fast as a 6200 even though its 7 years old. To give people an idea, this is a chart from 2006 of video card performance using a program which gives each card a score: This is the chart using 2007 cards: The 6200 scores 220, whereas the card rFactor recommend (a 7900GT) scores over 2000. They don't even bother to include the 6200 in the results.
  5. Really like that one murph.
  6. I think the only problem last night was the closed grid, especially with Birmingham being such a small track. Grades are a must - I had some bad starts (ended up half a lap down on 21st place twice) and as such started the final 8th on the grid so didn't really have to overtake many cars to win. In fact I think everyone in front of me except PaulP had crashed within 3 laps! Don't want to sound cocky but there's not much point having stars/superstars starting so far forward.

  8. That spec will be more than enough for rFactor I just built a new machine for our CAD department at work, Quad Core 6800 with an 8800gt, just got to find a way to sneak it home now...
  9. And its probably only 60 cos you've got vsync on and your monitor is set to 60hz. rFactor is childs play for an 8800 series card. I've got a Radeon x800gto2 (which is now a couple of generations old), a 939 X2 4200 and 2gb ram and I normally get 60fps at 1280x1024, dropping to ~40 when its really busy.
  10. #8 on both for me if thats ok!

    Thanks

Just a quick note to thank everyone who's been involved in running the league over the past few months, it's been brilliant. Roll on 2008!
  12. Brilliant again, some interesting driving in the supreme final

  14. Won't let me edit.. I found that at Belle Vue when I took a really hard hit I was better off not braking, but giving it some throttle to get the back end out so you hit the fence backwards or at least sideways on rather than hitting it head on and coming to a dead stop, and if you're lucky you can skate round the outside and miss the fence altogether. At Sexbierum though, if you try that you'll end up back in the pits!
  15. Yeah, that's always useful to do on a new track and is great practice. I often slow down and spend a few laps practising nudging/being nudged - some methods work well on certain tracks but not others. Probably annoys the hell out of the person I get tangled up with though
  16. Absolutely. There is no reason why the two games can't coexist as they appeal to different people.
  17. So hang on, are you suggesting that UK Dirt isn't perfect (in fact, from the meetings I've raced in over the years the driving standards were close to abysmal) but instead of at least trying to use rFactor as a launch pad to promote cleaner/better racing we'd be better off just letting the idiots in Heat switch over and carry on as they left off? There are plenty of leagues out there where drivers treat each other with respect (one running on a Tuesday night...). What's your point? rFactor is in a totally different league to Heat looks-wise purely because Heat is so antiquated. Gameplay wise the two are opposites - one is an arcade game and the other is a racing simulator. Unfortunately one can't just switch between games with the same driving styles and be quick. For some people (including myself) rFactor is a godsend, where shale races are actually driven like shale, proper FF and lovely graphics. For others with older computers, keyboards for controls and no time to practice they'll probably hate it. Of course it'll still happen, but that doesn't mean you have to just sit back and let the morons drive out the "quality people". Oh the irony.
  18. Even though i top scored scored tonight it was mostly luck - I got buried a couple of times by people and was fortunate that I was either far enough ahead of others not to lose too many places, or bounced off the fence and was able to limp home. What really annoys me is that we have certain drivers who've been racing this mod since pretty much day one, they might not be the quickest in the world but they turn up every week after putting in hours of practice and end up getting caught up by the idiots who treat the whole thing as a big joke. These are the guys who we want to keep turning up and if I were one of them tonight I would think twice about racing again.

  21. Yep, I didn't say it was a bad thing that the rf cars had more grip
  22. I think the RF cars have more grip in the corners than in real life.
