Happy birthday Kev!

Not sure if the exhausts are mine, could be partly mine from the finn models or db models, but its beside the point really - Dragon's model has been ripped off, and just goes to show why not all modelers are keen on car files being cracked. I've personally no problem with cracking if people want it for easier paintjob viewing, rendering and reference (presuming they ask, which most people do, which is very much appreciated!), but the real annoyances are jokers like this.

13 a low turnout? Sounds excellent to me for this stage in the game - thanks to everyone who ran/raced in the meeting, keep the feedback coming as I keep saying. Glad to see the contact is as intended aswell Hopefully be able to join you all next sunday

Congrats to Ironmac, Mrs-mac and ZackMac (??). All the best!

The current plan of action at the moment is for me and Danskin to run some official tests with the beta after this years f1 world final, could be a series, could be a string of unrelated meetings, we're not sure yet. It will probably follow ukdirt rules/format, just so we can really evaluate what would need doing if we are to move UKDirtF1s onto this mod next season. When we do start the testings, then I will compile another skinpack for anybody new (but not to update skins, because there is no point). With regard grades, I don't think its really worth it atm, but obviously graded starts will need to be tested, so we'll probably do something along the lines of the heats being random grids, then the final gridded in 'grades' according to how many points have been scored in the heats. For example, if Scrapman and Hutch top score with 14 points, then they will be the superstars for the meeting final, and so on. Obviously these are just ideas at the moment but I don't really want to be releasing lots of skinpacks with correct grades for a mod which is still only being tested. The full mod is looking nice and healthy now, is probably quite a way off yet, but I'm sure it will be worth the wait. At the moment we have 60 - 70 real life skins on the agenda and 9 finished chassis - with plenty of upgrades to personalize them so there should be a diverse range of cars on track. Exciting stuff anyway, thanks again to everyone for showing so much enthusiasm

And it sounds a good idea to me too, thanks for running it Hutch, and Spike last week, its much appreciated, as the more testing/feedback, the better! I'll try and get myself in one in a week or two.

Its the mozs chassis, which despite the name, its a tarmac only chassis due to the physics. If your looking to race one online in ukdirtf1s this year, then i won't be allowing it in the skinpacks, cause you've used your chassis change, as explained to you in a previous PM.

I left the skinpack open to everyone simply because at this stage, there is no point isolating anyone, as every little helps in testing - nobody said that practice would just take place on jolt (which it hasn't), so people could enjoy each others skins on other servers too, rather than just racing novice cars. As for the meeting, it's something I'm definitely interested in helping with - if we are seriously looking at this as the future of UKDirtF1s then thorough testing does need to go underway to prove this is the right game for the league, and that 'a' proposed format can be run successfully. If anybody whats to run a meeting or mini series (off of jolt) then go ahead - we appreciate all the testing that is done - official meeting test sessions will take place as Danskin says, so just keep an eye out, and whilst you wait, keep the feedback coming! I'm looking forward to it, and after so long it development, its an exciting time. The full version of the mod should be fantastic, with plenty of cars to choose from and a shed-load of real skins for you to splatter up the armco. Keep watching the page on rF Central - we try to add some development picture of other cars as often as we can!

Hi Below are the first skinpacks for the F1 Stockcars Beta V0.1 mod, so you can now ditch the 'novice' skins and race as your own skins! CLICK HERE FOR SHALE PACK CLICK HERE FOR TAR PACK I don't plan to do another pack for a while now, unless theres a massive demand. This should keep you going for a bit! Thanks to UKDirt for letting me use the webspace to upload these. Cheers MoR PS - There is one problem with Jack 360s tarmac skin, because of an incorrect veh file, but thats not my fault, its whoever painted it, and I'm not gonna sit and repack just for that, sorry.
-
Thanks Lads - i'll make the skinpack in a bit!
-
I'm out all day today so won't have any time to collect the skins and make a skinpack until tomorrow, so anybody can continue uploading skins until midnight tonight!
-
Sorry I haven't checked the thread in a while i've been away from home the past few days! Just to clarify: I won't be bothering with a numbers list. Please stick to your numbers where possible, but when a non ukdirt member submits a skin with a ukdirt members number, it doesn't matter - I will sort this out with file names no problem. So just continue to upload skins as normal, don't worry too much about anything, these are just test skins, and will be deleted when the full version is released!!

Hi m8, Yeh I did try that before but thanks for taking the time to reply anyway, much appreciated. My next idea is to return the hub to its factory settings and start again (but i'm not going to mess until friday, as my semi final is tomorrow lol!). If that doesn't work the wireless cards going back to dabs and then they can send me a posh netgear router, cus BTs cheap piece of plastic is really annoying me now Out of interest, does anybody here use a netgear router with BT instead of a home hub? Cheers MoR

Hi Dino, No it doesn't seem to be that, thanks for bringing it up anyway. I've tried firefox to no avail too! My virus checker can't update either so it looks like an internet connection isn't available at all MoR

Just to add to it, it isn't a firewall issue either. Ive had a good play with those aswell.

Hi I've been experiencing some trouble setting up wireless on my downstairs computer. I hate networking anything as I always have problems, I think i've tried everything on this one so i wondered if anybody could help me please. My network is setup as so: - My broadband router/modem is a BT Home Hub - My main pc (Upstairs) is connected to this by Ethernet (and USB, as its my main PC, and BT requires it to be setup like that) - My sisters PC is connected via ethernet so she can share the internet, and have file and printer sharing. - My laptop, which connects wirelessly and never had any problems, i'm using it right now! Due to the homehub being just a cheap router, it only has two ethernet slots, so the downstairs pc needed a wireless PCI card, which I finally got this morning. I managed to install it all fine, and it seems to be working as it detects wireless connections fine, including my neighbours. However, when I tried to connect to my network (after entering my encryption key etc), it said it was connected but with limited or no connectivity. I managed to track down the problem that it couldn't connect properly because it could not define an IP address for the Default Gateway. My responce to this was to input the Default Gateway (and DNS sever) addresses myself. Once i saved the settings, I was informed that I was connected to the network now, and that my signal strength was excellent etc. I checked the wireless connections and it now said 'connected' rather than 'limited or no connectivity'. However, when I fired up internet explorer, it said that there was no internet connection. I really can't understand how the network can be connected fine, wireless connected fine, yet no internet being connected. I've tried various things since: - Using the BT disc to configure stuff for me, but this always gets stuck on finding the Default Gateway IP Address. - Using network setup wizard and wireless network setup wizard. - Turning the downstairs PC on and off. - Re-entering settings, trying to let the IP address sort themseleves automatically etc. - Reseting HomeHub So i'm about out of ideas now? I'm pretty sure all hardware is working fine as its detecting networks fine, signal strength is great, so it can't be that the homehub is too far away. I'm really confused, so hoping someone could give me a hand please! Cheers MoR

For now they can be the default size of 2048 x 1024. If the skinpack turns out to be abit hefty, then next time i'll be asking for them to be resized to 1024 x 512. Are you zooming in enough for the edges to look crisp tosh? I know that sounds funny lol, but thats the only thing i can think of for your problem

The trouble with banning personal setups is the difference between a steering wheel setup and a pad setup really, so most likely won't happen for that reason. The great thing about rF is that is generally much more about consistent driving, rather than the setup. Whilst I know we are still at this early stage in testing, I doubt it is possible to set up your car to drive like tarmac, and be fast at the same time. My personal best laps around Sexbierium are those when you throw it sideways just at the right angle so you can get the throttle down nice and early and it just drifts out of the bend onto the straight and starts immediately pushing in for the next bend. We spent so long testing physics, and in that time we've probably all tested different ways of driving, and I haven't seen anybody drive it without sliding and getting decent lap times - which is very promising indeed. On the other hand, you may find it interesting (and good fun!) to try getting the back end out on tarmac and drive it nice and hard, as if you were on shale, and you'll soon see that it isn't as fast, and that it also wears your tyres very quickly! When you throw that factor into a race, it really does add another dimension to your race craft - should you really be pushing so hard for that place in front of you? Keep the feedback coming

So far, due to it only being the elites, then there isn't that many real life skins that could be painted. However, with the other chassis that we've done, such as my wainmanT for instance (which, with upgrades, also acts as a standard wainman customer car), there are a load of real life skins being painted (515, 347, 195, 271, 152, 51, 321 and quite a few more!), which will be included in the full release when that happens
-
Nope, anybody is welcome as your all so kind as to do some jolly good testing for us
-
Doesn't really matter tbh, use your f1 registered number but other than that, have what you like, its just for testing purposes for the time being
-
Hi all, So that we aren't looking at novice skins for the weeks to come, please post your skins below and I will compile them into a skinpack next Friday! Please attach as dds format with the correct naming, and the .veh file if possible please. An F1 specific skin guide can be found HERE. Deadline for skins is Midnight 2nd August 2007. Cheers MoR PS - To avoid problems, please don't use your personal skins before I've released the pack!!!!

Hi all, As promised, here is my 'F1 specific' skin converting/getting into game guide! The process is really simple, maybe even simpler than Heat, but that's for you to decide lol! Painting your skin Paint the skin as you would any heat skin. You'll notice that on Grasser's elite templates he as left the shading and polygon edges on the body/wing panels (so you can see the contours of the car so you can paint certain parts without having to keep looking in game to check you have things where you want them in relation to the shape of the panels etc). To colour these you just need to draw a rough selection around them on the correct layer and then select them, then flood fill them a solid colour. You don't need to leave the details/shading underneath. It really is that simple. Converting your skin To get the skin into game you need to save the finished product as a DDS. To save as this file format, you will need to DOWNLOAD THE PLUGIN FROM THIS PAGE. This plugin should work fine with Photoshop, it can be used with PSP if you drop it in the plugins folder but it tends to be temperamental, so if you can use it Photoshop, then do so, as it really isn't worth the hassle. Once you've installed the plugin, you will notice you can now save as .dds. When you have named your file, then click save and a Nvidia dialog will come up - just use the default settings and it should work fine (Make sure that the top drop down box is set to 'DXT1 (no alpha)'!). Naming your skin Name your .dds appropriately. Look in the tarmac skin directory (e.g. C:\Program Files\rFactor\GameData\Vehicles\F1Stockcar\Tarmac\Tarmac) and you'll see the current skins that are in the game, each has a .dds and .veh (we'll talk more about that later!). So, if you painting an Elite Tarmac, then name yours to match the others. As you can see, mine is 137EliT, so just use your number. If you are painting an Elite Shale, then go to the shale skin directory (C:\Program Files\rFactor\GameData\Vehicles\F1Stockcar\Shale\Shale) and name it accordingly (mine is 137els). VEH Files Each skin also needs to have a corresponding .veh file, which is named the same as your dds. You can open VEH files in notepad. These are basically the 'drivers.txt' of rFactor. Whilst they do look quite confusing at first, they are actually really simple to edit. So make a duplicate of an existing one (copy one and paste it, don't 'save as' as it wont save as a .veh!!!), and then rename to match your dds. Then open it up and adjust all of bits ive highlighted in green, but DO NOT adjust the bits highlighted in red! [attachmentid=17823] Now, if you've done all that correctly, then you should be able to go into game and find your skins. Hope this has helped chaps, i'm no expert at this yet but i'll try and help if you've any problems, and hopefully I haven't missed anything!

For anyone who is a gamepad person like myself (I don't get on with wheels and i dont get on with left foot braking either lol!) then try something with touch sensitive buttons, as you can achieve better throttle control on these than older pads. I've recently invested in a Logitech Chillstream which, apart from the rather pointless hand cooling gimmick (which is no use when you've got a kung fu grip over the air vents) is an ideal controller for rF. I personally brought it because it has triggers rather than shoulder buttons, which I use for my brake and throttle as I can use them progressively. PS2 controllers are touch sensitive too, so I'm sure they would be brilliant as well, i just thought the idea of triggers gives you more control.
