I did get ahold of HEAT last year sometime and signed up here then, one thing or another made it impossible to get going and I eventually lost the HEAT CD! Came back just to see if the shift to rF was in the works and..well..been here since!

Hi Painkiller and thanks for the comments. I honestly think at the very best we might be looking at some sort of release hopefully towards the end of this year. But that isn't that far away. Chop Chop LPC!!!! MC
kendo912 Posted September 22, 2006 Report Posted September 22, 2006 . I honestly think at the very best we might be looking at some sort of release hopefully towards the end of this year. But that isn't that far away. I havent got rfactor but obviously look at the videos posted by the team with great interest. A few questions that i think need to be raised, which i appreciate are very early but i'm sure many would like to know the answers to them. I have a duff pc which cost me about £200 3 years ago. Its graphics card was bog standard, and so are most of the other things on it 3 years ago meaning thati i have to run the ukdirt mods with everything turned to its crappest settings (suits me fine as i don't really give 2 stuffs about the ice cream van queue on turn 3 at cov) First and foremost will i and i'm sure many others who have a below average PC, require a new one? I use a pad, and i have no intentions of going out and buying a wheel with pedals-would this suffice or am i going to fly about all over the place when i put the power down out of the turns? Any plans on F2's? Lastly, and most importantly, are there any plans currently for ukdirt to adopt r-factor instead of nascar heat? Will r-factor begin it's own league of brisca racing, in which case will this devalue ukdirt as many people may "change" to race in that league? If that happens, will ukdirt continue?
Counter552 Posted September 22, 2006 Report Posted September 22, 2006 [ Any plans on F2's? Will r-factor begin it's own league of brisca racing, in which case will this devalue ukdirt as many people may "change" to race in that league? If that happens, will ukdirt continue? Life may be ending as we know it Kendo ! Don't believe UKDirt will ever be devalued, it just needs to decide whether a move to a new platform would be of benefit. We already have alternative leagues that have not devalued UKDirt. F2 may benefit most from a move to a new platform as the current mod does suffer a wee bit from "easy-topple" Main thing will be how well the league is run and the current UKDirt F2 Admin team are doing a great job. Personally I care more about how well the league is managed than being able to read the decals I guess it's over to the Admin team to facilitate an off-season decision about the pro's and con's of a move of Platform. I've no idea if the r-Factor team would simply let UKDirt use the platform and Mods ? PS Could sell you a new wheel and pedal set (cheapish), lost interest in using them at the moment.
Rikard Posted September 22, 2006 Report Posted September 22, 2006 I have a duff pc which cost me about £200 3 years ago. Its graphics card was bog standard, and so are most of the other things on it 3 years ago....... First and foremost will i and i'm sure many others who have a below average PC, require a new one? You can upgrade a PC, but buy the sounds of your PC Kendo it would be more economical to buy a new PC as apposed to spending hundreds bringing an old machine up to scratch (which would never be as good as a new one anyway) System Requirements for rFactor # 1.4 GHz processor # Windows 98 SE, ME, 2000, XP, XP 64-bit (will NOT run in Windows 95 or Windows 98 first edition) # 512 MB RAM # Geforce4 4200 or Radeon 9200 # 128 MB video RAM # DirectX 9.0c # 2.0 GB of hard drive space for installation # Internet connection required for one-time activation I use a pad, and i have no intentions of going out and buying a wheel with pedals-would this suffice or am i going to fly about all over the place when i put the power down out of the turns? Everyone seems to think that you NEED a steering wheel to race rFactor, but you don't. I have this steering wheel which cost me £90 a year ago which i never use lol, i'v tried it in Heat and rFactor but i don't like it that much, don't get me wrong its real great fun and all but my lap times are much quicker and easier to control using This my PC game pad, which is also more comfortable and I get a quicker response from it, but you’ll need finely tuned thumbs though Will r-factor begin it's own league of brisca racing, in which case will this devalue ukdirt as many people may "change" to race in that league? If that happens, will ukdirt continue? When rFactor F1 comes out if it is anything like the other mods then the downloads will be on this site http://www.rfactorcentral.com/ and available for any one to download and any league to run, it shouldn't devalue UK Dirt. Our leagues have great structure and community not to mention we have two super servers, and at the moment it only looks like its gonna be F1's that are gonna switch to rFactor to start off with. If UK Dirt goes onto the rFactor Central with all the other leagues it will good way to advertise us, and may well draw more people into our other Heat Mods, Which can only be a good thing
Badura_Racing258 Posted September 22, 2006 Report Posted September 22, 2006 Kendo, 'UkDirt' ran as another mod before nascar heat (i'm sure it was World Of Outlaws...or Sprintcars, or something like that..) Where as a change isn't always for the good, when the 'league' (F1's...only) started years ago, they alrady had a game out before....and changed to Nascar Heat (as it is today...) so who's to say that another change won't be better? I know your an F2 man, and to be fair...so am i, but the 'big league' is the origin, and if only F1's went on rfactor...i'd be all for it (more realistic, new venture...etc etc...) but i'm sure the guys don't have that in mind, and want to do the whole scene over there (if it ever happens, it might...might not) I'm not in exactly the best position finacially to buy a new PC.....but if it made for more enjoyment, and think about how much time you spend playing it....it would/will be worth it. I think a change isn't always for the good....but hearing/reading and seeing about it, i'm sure these guys have the best intentions in mind! Cheers, Hack
kendo912 Posted September 22, 2006 Report Posted September 22, 2006 Maybe a touch negative on my part but, doesn't sound like my PC would be up to scratch as u say Rikard, however the problem i have is that my computer is fine for what i use it for, which is general internet porn viewing and ukdirting. As someone whom has just mortgaged myself up the neck by buying a house, and only generally having the time to race one meet per week or occasionally 2 at a push, i'm not convinced i would be willing/able to part with £400 + for a better PC when my one is fine for current usage. I'd like to know if r-factor is being discussed by main admin or are we all waiting for it 2 be released then see what will happen to ukdirt etc. One other point, whether we like it or not, as many of you guys seem to be up for the change-what would happen if r-factor BriSCA F1's/hot rods are released as a mod and have meetings on a monday night (as an example), would ukdirt F2's attendances dwindle as people would race them instead? I just think that if r-factor is suggested that it COULD be released end of this year/early next year then what action plans or talks are happening for ukdirt?

Actually RF has a ton of good features built in for the older PC crowd. You can choose to run in DX 7, 8, 9. That right there helps the older vid cards. Dont have a super computer? Bump down to DX 8, which wont be as graphically demanding. There is also a new function with this patch, auto fps (I think thats the name) When enabled, you set the fps to say, 30. Once the game goes under 30 fps, it starts to change LODs for you. Its trying to keep you at that 30 fps. There are also loads of in game options (hope your sitting): Circuit Detail: low, med, high, full Player Detail: low, med, high, full Opponent Detail: low, med, high, full Texture Detail: low, med, high, full Texture Filter: Bilinear, Trilinear, X2 Anistropic, X4, X8, x16 Special Effects: low, med, high, full Shadows: low, med, high, max Shadow Blur: on, off Those are the main settings, and there are a few more in and out of game. As you can see, you can crank down the eye-candy and still have a decent looking game to play. You just might not have all the extra goodies a high end machine will have. The video I posted was made on a Core 2 Duo Extreme, 2gb ddr2, with an ATI 1900xt 512mb graphics card. But, a few LPC members have computers that Moses brought over on the arch...
painkiller Posted September 22, 2006 Report Posted September 22, 2006 (edited) my old pc i used to run rFactor on specs are as follows, never had problems running it in direct x 7 mode. so dont be too sad about the pc situation 1200 processor AmD FsB 133mhz 1gig sd-ram 128mb ati radeon graphics now the beast im useing has as follows duel 4.2mhz processor AmD 64bit FsB 2100mhz 4gig ddr-ram duel 512 mb Nvidea graphics Edited September 22, 2006 by painkiller
splinter Posted September 22, 2006 Report Posted September 22, 2006 (edited) Nice PC!...Crap Desk! Same steering wheel as me. To answer the question, there's so many graphics settings on rfactor, it hardly matters what PC you have, wether it be 5 years old or a £3,000 top spec PC. Edited September 22, 2006 by splinter
erik Posted September 22, 2006 Report Posted September 22, 2006 Thanks freew67 for mentioning about DX 7, DX8 etc. Previously mine was jumpy, but I've turned it down to DX7 and it now works fine
