Event Preview

So, who’s the favourite? Well the current champion probably starts as favourite, Kane leads the points to be top qualifier and also has a final win to his name this season. 2013 Champ, DanSkin has arguably been the quickest this year in pace with 2 finals already this season and must also be one of the cars to watch to see if he can reclaim the crown he so nearly defended last season.

The coveted New Zealand Championships went to Ben Chambers after a hectic last few laps, whether he can keep that consistency over 3 races remains to be seen while outgoing NZ Champ, Harmen has also had a wreckers or chequers sort of season so far making him highly unpredictable going into the 240.

Second in the points is veteran UKDirt driver, Grasser. No finals for him so far despite being close the last few meetings but consistency could pay dividends for the first ever winner of this title on UKDirt in 2005. Another driver under the radar is PaulE who seems to have really taken to the NZ style so far and could surprise over 3 heats. The same could certainly be said for LeeK, Lee has missed a few meetings this season but is more than capable of a good run throughout the World 240.

The Dutch contingent is strong as you would imagine, Mike and Marten have both won finals this season, have shown speed throughout and both would start with short odds to do well here. Tsjalle just draws far too much attention to himself and to virtually everyone else in races to be a serious threat for the title really despite flashes of real pace at times, Frans on the other hand has just got on with it really, although it will take a major upset for him to shake up the podium places.

CB, in the now legendary 0r car, has been missing from the last few meetings, but was right up towards the top of the points over the meetings he has done, if CB can attend then he will feature for sure. Josh Hampson has one final from one appearance to qualify and could easily shake the order up at the end. Another driver lower down the chart than you would think is JakeC who has basically gone for the crash this season so far. Finally, Maverick is the last qualifier due to Ricky James' ban and so far has improved with every race when he is allowed 4 wheels on the floor.

The last chance race has some interesting drivers if it runs. The real Wardieee is in this race but whether he’ll temper the aggression that has kept him out of the direct qualifiers remains to be seen. TurtleNZ is the only NZ resident so far to race with us this season but managed a final third last time out at his first attempt. Pre meeting practice champion, Tinman, is always fast over a lap but will need rather more than that over a race should he attend. We also have some world champions to add some glamour to the last chance if they book in. The “other” Superstocks World Champ, Drumbstick is in the mix and could easily turn his hand to the NZ style if he chooses and what about our current F1 World Champ, TomD… If he turns up and gets in… anything can happen!

So that’s that… Pick your winner from that because I can’t! Get booked in!
