JohnMid Posted February 7, 2005 Report Posted February 7, 2005 Hello, gang, long time no blether. Hard working Heat modder TheMask (he made the mod launcher most of us use to fire up our games) posted on RSC to bring attention to an all in one free download to enable people to play Heat mods http://www.themodsquad.uni.cc/modules.php?...ewtopic&t=12#72 Is the statement on the modsquad forums with the download link. The package uses some files from the heat demo, and re-packages them, with all the patches etc, up to version 1.80. As it states, you won't be able to play the original game, but all mods should work fine. I think I'll backup my heat install to a dvd-r (it might just fit ) and install this, I'll report back how it goes. Seems like a good time to clear out the old installation fresh for a new season anyway Wouldn't it be fantastic if people could be offered a single download/cd with *everything* they need to go racing in stocks, hotrods, bangers right off the UK Dirt site?
wrighty496 Posted February 7, 2005 Report Posted February 7, 2005 Blimey this is a development lol - i knew the Mask had had recent contact with Hasbro inter(etc) regarding creation of the 1.80 patch, but they seem to be really helpful atm lol. is this the 'demo' that people were discussing on TexasSpeedRacings forum? did our game just get even free-er? cheers John, let us know how it goes please many thanks in advance ....... Wrighty ps: if you've still got the mods, do we get to see you in Jolt from time to time again? (purely for research purposes of course lol) best wishes m8

(purely for research purposes of course lol) best wishes m8 5977 Well, if I did it right, I'm paid up for 2005, so I should be online. Between hardware trouble, forum confusion and shiny objects, I got distracted from UK Dirt for the last couple of months or so.
JohnMid Posted February 7, 2005 Author Report Posted February 7, 2005 Well, I cleared out my Heat install (all 2.3gb of it ) flushed the registry of anything related to hasbro, rebooted and installed the Nascar Heat Essentials kit and the hot rods mod. Mod worked fine first time, though the cut-down mod launcher that comes with the essentials pack refuses to recognise any mods (I dragged ukdirtf1 and vtab back off the backup dvd). The good news, though, is that the regular mod launcher works fine, though you'd have to be careful not to select cup 2000. The essentials pack is only 23mb, so it's a good package to keep as a backp if nothing else, especially as it patches everything you need up to 1.80. Not sure what patch ukdirt currently runs on, but I've downgraded before without any obvious problems.
Grasser233 Posted February 7, 2005 Report Posted February 7, 2005 Still on 1.72e John although ive swopped both around countless times without any probs. Cheers Grasser233
AndyG Posted February 7, 2005 Report Posted February 7, 2005 (edited) Worked like a dream here - I uninstalled everything, then installed the Essentials exe, immediately installed BH2005 (didn't do anything with the Essentials), and BH ran perfectly from the desktop shortcut. An extremely easy (and free!) way for newbies to get BH (and the other mods of course). (The mini mod launcher provided also found and ran BH2005 no problem.) Cheers, Andy Edited February 7, 2005 by AndyG
JohnMid Posted February 8, 2005 Author Report Posted February 8, 2005 My personal theory is that the mini launcher has the c:\program files path hardcoded into it or something, given that my windows is on D: that may be a problem- the only thing I can think of anyway. If it works out the box, that's great, if not, it only takes a download of the regular mod launcher to fix.

JohnMid Posted February 27, 2005 Author Report Posted February 27, 2005 Looks like your ukdirt installation is spadged. Reinstall, or see if someone can send you their ui.res file from their ukdirtf1 folder over msn or whatever.
misterbreg364 Posted February 28, 2005 Report Posted February 28, 2005 quite a few dowloads from ukdirt have this ui.res problem ive heard of. is this a problem from the site or from the install files?
danny Posted February 28, 2005 Report Posted February 28, 2005 got same thing when i done it today does it matter if u put the nascar heat ui.res in your other folders? works that way but not sure if it changes physics etc? cheers big dan
JohnMid Posted March 3, 2005 Author Report Posted March 3, 2005 You might get some options on screen that the mod maker thought you shouldn't have, but as long as you don't press the wrong button you should be fine- a lot of the scabby mods don't even use their own ui.res, they just copy the main one. That being said, there must be something confusing the installation package on some machines if the ui.res isn't being installed with the ukdirt mods- they should install fine.
norrismcwhirter Posted March 3, 2005 Report Posted March 3, 2005 Hi, Can you run online with the essentials setup or does the server reject it because it's the wrong patch version (1.80 vs 1.72e) ? Ta, Xeno
wrighty496 Posted March 3, 2005 Report Posted March 3, 2005 Hi, Can you run online with the essentials setup or does the server reject it because it's the wrong patch version (1.80 vs 1.72e) ? Ta, Xeno 8437 you do need to be set to patch 1.72e to access our servers - if you're patched to 1.80 you get a 'version mismatch' error after you enter the password (happened to me dozens of times when i was doing other heat mod racing that used 1.80 lol). 1.72e from our site should work straight into your nascar heat folder and patch you back to 1.72e from 1.80 - i've replaced the patch backwards loads of times without a problem but i dont know how far integrated 1.80 is into the free base, and i've heard a few bad reports regarding 1.80 so caution is required (or a cd copy of nascar heat just in case) cheers ......... Wrighty
misterbreg364 Posted March 3, 2005 Report Posted March 3, 2005 it works perfectly with essentials and swapping 1.72e -> 1.80 and back and forward
