All New registrations and payments are now being accepted again. Any new or returning member (who's membership has lapsed) will get membership until 28th February 2013 for their first year fee of £15. This gives a few extra weeks membership to race some of the winter series before next year's season starts. Any new member who is racing the NZ Open Series will get reduced membership fees, further details will be in the Annual Renewal announcement in early January. A seperate post will be made in early January for existing members renewals once we have worked out league winners etc. Over the years 25 - 40 members have won all or some of their membership fees through online racing success. Thanks for your patience over the last few weeks.

Hi Ben, hopefully all sorted now.

All No payments are being accepted for new memberships or renewals for the next few weeks. A further announcement will be made in early/mid November when we are in a position to start accepting payments again. As it is getting near the end of the main racing season and the membership year ends on the 28th February, there will be a number of promotions announced where there will be offers for new members in terms of "deals" for racing some of the winter series and reduced joining fees for the new season. Check back here in November if you are looking to join ukdirt in the near future.

Hi Stu No problem changing your nickname, drop me a PM and I'll sort that for you. We are also running various "open meetings" across the formulas where you don't have to be a paid up member to race online and then you get to join for a reduced fee if you like it enough. I think you have missed the F2's open meeting, but we have been running a new Superstox series which is open to anyone, I think there are still 2 weeks left if you want to catch it. http://www.ukdirtforum.com/index.php?showtopic=36012 Whatever you decide, I'm sure you will have fun.

Hi Guys Sorry, I've been away for the weekend watching the real stuff at KL and Sheffield, just back. Our hosts Webmania are aware of issues with the memory in their servers are in the process of upgrading them. If this does not resolve the problem, we will begin the task of moving to a different host, although unfortunately we have just renewed with them for another year
-
We had a number of issues with the host Webmania recently as they "upgraded" all their services, but I think it has been OK for the last 2 weeks. A number of us spent many hours on the phone or trying to get into their online help facility to get this resolved. It would help if you could let me have details of any error messages you were getting. As I've posted elsewhere, if you have some spare time to help out with the behind the scenes technical stuff that a few of us do instead of practicing or racing, please send me a PM.

Thanks for the comments Jakie, that is what this thread is about. We do need and want to continue to make ukdirt a place where everyone who wants to race online can and will feel welcome. Given everyone has their own reasons for racing online and their own view of what "stock car racing" is about, we have the difficult job of trying to make some simple and basic rules to try and keep it fair without being too heavy handed on punishments to try and keep it as fair as possible. One of the reasons I stopped doing F2 Admin was that for some reason people seemed to think we were dealt with differently. I think I received as many "timeouts" whilst I was a member of the Admin team for on track incidents as I had before I'd become an Admin member, only downside being I still turned up to the meetings to RM them! A while back we decided to revisit a large number of "lifebans" that had been handed out and offered most of them another opportunity to race provided they stuck closer to the rules to keep it fair for everyone. I don't think we have had to reinstate any of these lifebans, so hopefully this will continue to have been a good decision. Looking forward to more thoughts and views on this thread, even from "the other side" who seem to be keeping a regular check on this thread

You and that other retard are obviously team speaking for ban the pad/keyboarders then...... Great advert to increase numbers that is son..."we really encourage people of all abilities and grades to race....apart from ones who haven't got a wheel"!!!! Good thinking that is And there it is in black and white, the UKDirt elite's real opinion on the matter. Any further discussion is rather futile don't you think? Sim racing has evolved it can't be denied. UKDirt hasn't and the numbers have dwindled to reflect it. Unless there is some other reason why the "hardcore sim" method regularly gets the big turnouts and the "welcome alcomers" doesn't. PS I agree with drumbsticks quote! Here was me thinking we had a topic that was going to be constructive, but alas has been taken over by people with agenda's. At least me looking on this thread has identified that some people still have "paid member" posting and viewing rights on the forum that they haven't paid for, so at least we can fix that. Last time I checked, Kendo was not part of the UKDirt elite as you call it., but I guess a non racing poster on our forum knows better than me. As one of the longest serving members of ukdirt's general admin, I was simply trying to use this thread helpfully started by an interested racing member to see if we could change or improve things for everyone's benefit. The contructive points I have gleaned so far that I want to put to the AGM are: 1. Change and simplify the fee structure and joining instructions, followed by more straightforward PC, wheel set up etc minimum requirements. 2. Find a way of bringing back proper practice sessions and clinics to help newbies or rFactor newbies/ex Heat racers get a chance to get nearer the pace before trying to race meetings 3. Have "open meetings" to let people try before they buy. 4. I've no idea about the TS thingy, but if it is half as annoying as the "spotter", it probably will help put people off their racing line if I shouted at the right time. But we probably should decide whether we have it or not and if so, there should be a ukdirt version to allow access for all. If we are being more like real life and not an arcade game, then we shouldn't have it as it's not allowed in real life short oval racing. Just needs a simple rule clarification. 5. Get more people interested in helping run ukdirt. It always surprises me on topics like this that many people seem to have a view that there is a big brother ukdirt persona somewhere trying to make their racing life a nightmare. If that's the case, I'm sorry for spending several hours per week every week over the last 3 years doing my bit with no racing enjoyment in return. I am certified bonkers. I'd like to see someone on General Admin purely responsible for promoting ukdirt, the F2's Paul Brown of ukdirt if you like. I hope we get more constructive points on here and if you think I've missed any that you think would help, please post again here. In terms of timescale to make any decisions, that's not decided as it will take some time to find a time that all General Admin plus some elite invites (to past General Admin members) can get together. I am planning on attending real F1 meetings over the next 2 long weekends which will eat into the available time. Most of my spare time at the moment is going into setting up my wheel properly and trying to get nearer the pace in F2s to try and get some online fun to make all this other stuff I do worth the hassle.
-
Some good constructive points are being raised. I'm trying to organise a General Admin AGM to discuss how we move some of these forward. As always, most of us already spend way too much time doing the things we already do. The main reason I've tried rFactor recently is because I've been spending hours per week on Finance and Admin with no fun from the racing in return. I would be really interested to hear from any current, past or future member who would be willing to help with promoting ukdirt along the lines discussed in the various threads recently.

I think Kendo has summed it up nicely on the F2's results section why we have so many missing drivers In terms of advertising, drumbstick has been talking with ORN about a regular slot and a sponsorship deal, not sure how that is progressing. We have tried promotion offers on the online versions of stoxworld, didn't really make much difference - happy for you to investigate something for Stoxworld if you think it would attract some newbies - probably be better if we could promote it around some "open" type of meetings to allow people to try first and join at a discount if they had raced in an open meeting. That would give us something to advertise?

Sorry, Spike, I'm booking out I'm 2 secs a lap worse online than offline and just getting in the way. In praccy couldn't get a lap without being rammed into the armco or spun into the centre, no fun and will spoil others races, cheers, but short lived comeback!!!

Sorry, just spotted your point 5 ....... We have tried all sort of promotions, reduced fees, free months etc and it hasn't had much impact on the number of members. The renewal fees over the last 2 years have been £5 and £10, average of £7.50 which is competitive compared to other options available and 30 - 40 actually win their fee and pay no renewal fee at all. We should consider making the joining process easier and cheaper - we have previously considered removing the one-off joining fee of £5 which was designed to deter timewasters and troublemakers. An option would be to remove the joining fee and allow registered members access to practice sessions for 2 weeks before they pay anything. There would need to be practice sessions for this to work. All General Admin and 2nd Tier Admin would have to be happy to take on the extra hassle associated with this but it would probably help with new members. Over the last 2 years it has cost us more to run the race servers, databases and forum than we have taken in fees, so it is a tricky balancing act to set the fees at a level where we can continue to pay all the outgoings with the number who want to race with ukdirt. We can continue for a long time before this becomes a problem, I just need to find the level where reduced fees actually generates more new members than we lose by charging less! What are peoples thoughts/views on this - maybe we should move this post to the General section to get some wider input?

Cracking post Drumbstick I was thinking about posting something similar on the Rods forum to get more interest before it dies completely. Having raced the F2s for the first time in 3 years the other week, the first time I found out how far off the pace I was, was in the meeting as there is no practice. From memory, I think we used to have more fun in the practice meetings and races than the proper meetings where some always take it too seriously. I also agree that the registration and joining process is too complicated, I probably know that the most as I administer it. I don't have the technical skills to change it, but would be very interested to talk to any member who would be willing to help simplify it if they have the appropriate technical skills for the website and databases.

Sorry I missed it guys, had it downloaded and did a wee bit of praccy as I loved the heat version of Mildo, but unfortunately was away working yesterday and not quite back in time. Sounds like it was a good meeting, so will try and make next week. Seems unlike the Heat days there are not really any proper praccy sessions?

Sorry about this guys, I've spent 2 hours tonight trying to get through to Webmania our hosts of www.ukdirt.co.uk, just don't know what is going on. It has been pretty reliable for the last 5+ years. I'm in Live Support right now and have just received this (for the 50th time)

We are aware of this issue and are in contact with our hosts as it seems to go down on its own and then reappear without us doing anything so its really been out of our control but we are trying to sort out why this happens and what we can do to resolve the issue. Emailed them every day since Saturday, will keep you updated on progress, just threatened them with moving host if service is not resumed 9although we will need it to move the data!!
