Speed costs money. How fast do you want to go?
-
You can lead a horse to water...
-
There are a few things out there which will do it, most of them free/shareware with enough options enabled. vcdhelp.com was always full of tutorials and links to the software to do most things.

If there was a fault with the mod on the website, you'll have to download it again- just reinstalling it won't make any difference. If you have a full install of Nascar Heat, then you can copy the ui.res from the main Nascar Heat folder into the mod subfolder. I'm not sure if there's a ui.res with the "essentials" package (which is the version I have installed at the moment).
-
Have you done a search on your computer for "ui.res" as a file? It'd be easier to find a mod to download, and copy the ui.res from that if you don't have one.
-
I doubt there's much in the way of deformable structure going in roof first- it's the massive deceleration g-force that's the danger in an accident like this.
-
If you have a ui.res file in c:\program files\hasbro interactive\nascar heat\ then copy that into the subfolder for the mod you want to get working (such as ukdirtbangers) It won't look right (full of NASCAR graphics and music), but it should work.
-
Any old ui.res should work (even from another mod) as long as the options available are the same- half my heat mods only ever used the standard ui.res. Of course, you don't get the full flavour, but you should be able to race.

http://www.10tacle.com/gtr-game/ and http://www.gtr-game.com/forums/ Also the RSC forums for GTR. I may be selling my copy soon, so I'll keep UKDirters in mind first.

Putting music on a website is proven method #154 for getting people to want to punch you in the face when they find out who did it. Just so you know

Gaming is two way traffic. Both upstream and downstream are important, because you need to send and receive game data to and from the server. It's the same when you're hosting a server, except the ammount of connexions you have to send/receive to/from is greater (ie the number of players who connect to your pc). In the two examples you give above, both will give the same performance if you're a "client". The faster download option might give a slight improvement in hosting (because you can receive more data from the clients in a second) but will still be limited by the upload speed, to the point where I think the download speed will still be largely irrelevant. In short, both will (in theory) be the same for gaming purposes. This is depending on the specific traffic generated by any given game, though- I think the 750 is plenty of downstream to receive data on a full grid of 20+ cars in Heat, for example. You might want more if you play those shooter games with 100 people at a time connected.

I'll have a crack at that. It's a shame it won't let me race the Caterham in any of the races that I've found so far.
-
You should be able to use the Garage(?) option at the track and change your setup and test it from there (just you on the track with the lap timer).
-
Just imagine that you are the World Champion, and it's fine.

8:37.xx straight from the showroom, with driving aids kocked down about half (still on joypad). Barely got out of 3rd gear even on the long straight, so I expect there's more potential with tweaking
-
It's a deal. I wonder if the caterham is much different to a 67 F1 car, I've done a few laps at the ring in one of those I might be able to give GTR another go at the weekend, as I'll hopefully be pulling the computer apart and putting in the 6800le graphics card my cousin is giving me.

I check RSC and gtr-game daily. There's no point in asking on gtr as I'll just get the usual list of things to do. It's especially nice that it doesn't even give any message that something's wrong, which would at least be a start. I'm going to try again tonight, and I'm going to remove my firewall and virus checking software. After that, the gtr disc gets "filed".
-
Yes, Dino. I'll try uninstalling it all (again) tonight, and go through the registry with a fine tooth comb, but I don't hold out much hope. That, or I'll be playing GT4 all night instead.
-
If you're just running Nascar Heat, then the skins should be nascars. Have you installed ukdirtf1?
-
Well, I spoke too soon, and it looks like I won't be playing GTR any time soon. The game flatly refuses to do anything past checking the disk. The mouse cursor pauses for a bit, then it's as if I never even clicked on the icon. Every "solution" I've read about so far seems to involve pulling out half of the computer from the case, and there's no way I'm monkeying around like that for the sake of one game, however good. Also, GT4 hasn't come yet, so I can't even console myself (ho ho) with that. Good job the ukdirt season is about to get underway.
-
Both GTR and GT4 were posted to me on Friday from play.com (should have held off on GT4- 3 quid cheaper in Argos ) So I'll have GTR, but whether I'll be playing it right away, I dunno.
-
Need more information. How does it not work? Error messages? Crashes the computer?
-
The 1965 mod for GPL looks lovely, and the cars are much easier to throw around and powerslide like a nutter.
-
I wouldn't bother with Race Driver 1, go straight for 2- the cutscenes are funnier, and there's more variety in the racing. Flatout is great fun while it lasts, but it didn't last past two weeks for me. Also Nascar Racing 2003 + Ferrari 330 mod + addon tracks + internet = great fun so far. As for non-driving games, I dunno? Is there such a thing? Battlefield 1942 is good fun online, especially the Galactic Conquest mod (Starwars addon for free- silence, rebel scum! ) Half Life 2- I dunno- only bought it for Counter Strike Source

You might get some options on screen that the mod maker thought you shouldn't have, but as long as you don't press the wrong button you should be fine- a lot of the scabby mods don't even use their own ui.res, they just copy the main one. That being said, there must be something confusing the installation package on some machines if the ui.res isn't being installed with the ukdirt mods- they should install fine.
