  1. http://www.slingindirt.com/modules.php?nam...download&cid=43 Sprint Heat.
  2. Doesn't look like the full file. If it is, it means the computer died before it wrote it all out, and that would be a more serious problem than a few files out of place in the game.
  3. DirectX 9 *should* work fine on any GFX card in terms on installing it- but stranger things have happened.
  4. I'll start the bidding on the ui.res file being 0 bytes large. But it could be anything- we need the error log.
  5. If you're hosting over the internet you'll need to allow, and forward the ports required from the router to the specific PC that's hosting the races. Different routers have different ways of doing this- for example on my Netgear, I have to create a "Service" and state whether it's TCP or UDP (both are required for some things, so I have to make two services) set the port range, and then use the firewall rules to always allow these services to send/receive data, and to send them on to a certain IP address (that of my PC). It might be with more than one PC attached, the router doesn't know which one to forward incoming data to.
  6. Found it hard to do donuts in, but that might be setup related.
  7. I thought maybe they'd had a charity "Cartoon Car Show" or something, but I think they actually do these things because they like the way they look. Hanging oil coolers out the front with overlong hoses seems to be the big trend too- expect to see that look available from a highstreet boutique near you.
  8. I was trying to think of something funny to post involving Vauxhall Corsas, but I'll let the pictures speak for themselves. Clicky Of course, now someone'll point out it was posted up six months ago.
  9. Not sure rFactor's online ability is as good as Heat's, and it's fairly hefty on the PC spec I think. I've no doubt someone will have a monkey around with it- especially if/when ISI hand out the tools to make things easier, so we would probably see then what its capable of.
  10. I don't ever remember having trouble with that- I always change the letter on the installers when it comes up with the file locations. Probably, the solution is to install the Essentials package, then apply the 1.72e patch (or use the patch swapper doodad).
  11. My Nascar Heat installation is on my D: drive, but that's because D: is my Windows (XP) drive, as I'd left Windows 98 on C: As long as Nascar Heat is on the same drive as the Windows folder, it should be ok. C and D are just letters of the alphabet usually assigned to hard drives and CD drives respectively (because A and B have historically been reserved for floppy disc drives)- not sure what Chubbs means by C/D. My hard drive partitions are C, D, E, H, (I), J, with the DVD drives on F and G.
  12. That's right, though, isn't it? My rods install only has the novice cars in the drivers.txt I think.
  13. It says there's an error with the drivers.txt file- all those "bad line"s. Try getting a drivers.txt off someone with a working copy.
  14. Sounds good- the 5200 is bottom rung, but it's on a ladder that's a couple of floors up from the 2MX.
  15. I think Sven's working his way towards an accumulator with the bookies and he wants to nobble the odds before he gets going. It was great stuff watching those overpaid primadonnas running about like headless chickens punting the ball and hoping it'd land. Well most of them were running about. Except Ferdinand- lazy prat, with a gob like a horse's fanny.
  16. Al- check if your PC has an AGP slot for the graphics card- PCI was still a popular choice around the Geforce 2 era. Does your PC have a manual showing the motherboard info? 5200s are £25-£30 brand new.
  17. The ui.res files I've downloaded for F2s and for Legends both end up not working. I think this is because the installer uses a DOS batch script which does not work as intended on most XP systems. Unfortunately, the script does succesfully delete the files involved so you can't fix it yourself. All my mods have the UKDirt F1 ui.res... If I could get a look at the installer routines, I could probably make something that would work for everyone- by tring the batch file first, checking the size of the ui.res file, then either cleaning up, or running a vbs script to do the same stuff. vbs tends not to work too well on Win98 etc, so you couldn't replace the batch files with it completely.
  18. hmm. With Windows Explorer, go to your program files\hasbro interactive folder, right click on the Nascar Heat folder, choose "properties" and look for the "read only" tick box, and click it until the tick goes away completely. Click on "Apply" and the next screen should say "You have chosen blah blah" And the option "Apply changes to this folder, subfolders and files" should be chosen. Click on "OK". Click OK again. I'm suggesting this as I'm guessing there's a problem with writing data to config files in your installation of the game, but it's just a guess.
  19. Probably best to look in the forums for the specific formulas (F1, F2, Saloons etc) as there's usually instructions on what to do to get your paintjob into the skinpacks.
  20. There is this programm on Discovery channel that is called "mythbusters" and they research a lot of these myths. They did research the duck's quack and indeed it doesn't echo. But they did find out why it didn't echo. It seems that it has something to do with the quack from the duck being some sort of an echo itself. Therefor when the duck quacks, it's sound vibrations seem to neutrolise the echo when it should bounce back I'll get my coat now Dragon They use the same technology in fancy cars to cut out road noise. Not by putting ducks in the glove compartment, obviously, but by playing back the road noise into the car to nullify the sound.
  21. I just think that when a stock formula means higher costs than using 3rd party/inexpensive alterations, then the stock rules should be chucked out. Mind, the logical conclusion of that process is the NASCAR Cup car, so maybe there's an argument for holding on to "pure stock" regardless of how much sense it makes. Ideally, you'd have a formula which says "All stock" with an (ever growing) list of specific exceptions. IN THEORY autograss rules work this way- if the rulebook doesn't explicitly say you can do it, then you can't. In theory. So all it takes is: Rule 53 part d- cross drilling of standard profile cams is permitted. Eventually, some bullets have to be bitten- such as (again in autograss) FWD chassis being allowed, modified for RWD into the RWD only class 3, due to ever dwindling supplies of Escorts and Starlets, and the allowance of FWD hatches into Class 2. All it takes is some common sense, as long as someone keeps a tight reign on it, it's not like you'll suddenly end up with highly modified, highly expensive specials. It does me head in. Just glad I don't have to work within it- I just watch it all from the other side of the fence.
  22. That's the kind of "rules for rules sake" that just make everyone's life a misery. I was hoping there's some slightly unobvious potential benefit to greater cheating using such a cam, or maybe that it makes the job of scrutineering for real cheats that much harder for whatever reason, but I can't see it. You can't run asjustable suspension components on a class 1 autograss mini, either, but if you take the time to ram the offside into something hard enough to shorten that side, you can make it turn right a lot better once you've knocked the panels back out...
  23. "Know."
  24. I would guess that it's something to do with the wheels on one of the cars. Do you have Nascar Heat patched to at least 1.72? If you go to Options off the main screen, it should have a number in the bottom corner- what does that say? Alternatively, it might be that the installation didn't go to plan- you may need to reinstall the rods and/or re-download the mod. :/
  25. And the Driving Force (non pro- blue one). That's because these are USB wheels, and the Wingman team made PC drivers for them. Gameports are usually found on the back of sound cards, and are the old method of connecting joysticks etc. If a Playstation-USB adapter is whinging about Gameport drivers, then something is seriously fubar'd.
