    Sound problem

I would get it randomly when I had a Soundblaster Live sound card, and restarting several times *usually* cured it, sometimes a reboot was necessary. No drivers ever cured it on that card. Haven't had any trouble with the Audigy2 card since.

    Sound problem

Just to echo what Budge says- quit out and restart a few times and it usually fixes it.
  3. Has it always done this, or is it a new problem?
  4. not if you have the full game, no. Try downloading the hotrods mod again and reinstalling it.
  5. What version of Nascar Heat are you running? Click on options and tell us the number in the bottom corner of the screen. Like 1.5, 1.72 etc.
  6. Is it wise encouraging a 14yr old to drink beer? Still I suppose its better than them hanging around shopping centers wearing hoodies and mugging oaps. Kids these days.
  7. Yes. It would help if you have the actual game (Nascar Heat) installed. By which I mean also that it MUST be installed to the default location. I am not going into the hows and whathaveyous of making Nascar Heat run from an alternative folder (it is possible) so you MUST install it to c:\program files\hasbro interactive\nascar heat
  8. on your task bar: click Start highlight and click Run type in Regsvr32 MSINET.ocx just exactly like you see it there in the text box that appears press return Enjoy a refreshing glass of cool pilsner.
  9. We put wireless in because Her Indoors was sick of the phone extension running up the stairs to the study, and didn't want more holes knocking in the house. Wired is better by far, but a non-broadcast WPA-PSK network with MAC access control and assigned IPs is as good as I can get it for wireless. And handy for laptops, even if it's just to do away with one wire too many.
  10. Look for AGP drivers from your motherboard manufacturer, for the board you have. Check in the BIOS and make sure (if possible) that the onboard video (if it exists) is Disabled. I have no experience with Intel chipsets of any kind, so I don't know about the drivers on that site you linked to.
  11. http://workshops.prohosting.com/dev/cgi-bi...load.cgi?msinet Download MSINET.ocx and copy it into the \windows\system32 directory. Then, open the run dialog box using "Start > Run..." and enter "Regsvr32 MSINET.ocx" to register the DLL. I don't think I included it due to legal uncertainty, or it may be part of the VB6 runtime files you need to install. It's been so long since I wrote the Car Manager I can't even remember myself.
  12. see the list of little yellow folders? double click on "program files" double click on "hasbro interactive" double click on "nascar heat" Click OK.
  13. I don't know anything about what you're specifically talking about, but I will say that clipping the wall can be one of the fastest ways round some tracks in the F1s (Thinking of NIR and I think King's Lynn) so it's possible the same is true with bangers. Cheat messages by themselves, are a bit of a red herring. Just some words of caution before the witch hunt, that's all.
  14. If you're asking what I think you are: Right click on the little wireless network icon in the bottom right part of the task bar and choose the option that says renew or refresh or whatever (I forget the specifics). It'll disable your wireless card, re-enable it, then talk to the router to get a new IP address etc. Otherwise, run "cmd" to get the command shell up and type ipconfig /release then ipconfig /renew Which should refresh your network settings in a similar way.
  15. AGP apperture and multiplier should be in the same part of the BIOS. If that is the AGP "performance" you're talking about, then the 4x, 8x etc should be on that screen also. I know in the past, it's been suggested that the apperture size sometimes shouldn't be as big as the video card RAM size, as it's down to how fast the bus is, and whatnot, so you could experiment with that. Heat does talk some absolute rubbish from time to time when it comes to the speed reports. You could try some other benchmarks, something like '3d Mark'.
  16. Turn off Windows Firewall while racing.
  17. Five quid? It was $40US when I imported it all those years ago, and $30 of that was shipping. That was when you could still find Heat for sale. The demo can be used to install mods, but it's not as simple as just installing it and clicking updates. The essentials pack is built on the basis that everything in it is available publicly for free already as part of the demo, but it will still, I think, fall foul of the fact that it is still unauthorised distribution. Morally speaking, buying second hand copies of Heat is just as bad/good as downloading essentials. Either way, nobody involved in making the game gets any of your money.
  18. Notwithstanding the fact that we've got a post here on an Acer that's packed in after three months: http://www.laptopsdirect.co.uk/Acer_Aspire...aptops/prod.asp Plays Quake 4 fine.
  19. Hmm, if it's under warranty, you could try going the customer support route. I'd be tempted to try formatting the hard disc, but you'd lose all your data then, and you'd probably need a USB stick with DOS on it to boot with. Wonder if the Acer I bought before chrimbo will last more than three months
  20. Hmm, try changing the settings in Heat to a lower screen mode just to start with, if you can get that far. You might be able to edit this in the options file before loading Heat? Reinstall DirectX if you haven't already. And finally, never believe a word of someone who is selling you something! That omega website has ATI drivers also, you could give those a try.
  21. The card should be fine in XP. I have run a Riva TNT2 (who remembers those?) under XP without any problems. You need to boot windows in safe mode http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?...kb;en-us;315222 And remove the old graphics card/device from the device manager. Hopefully, you should then be able to restart the PC and get into windows (it will be in a low resolution now) and go through the "new hardware found" rigmarole and install the drivers. For nvidia cards, you can download the drivers from nvidia.com - you get a bunch of options to choose from: Graphics Driver/Geforce and TNT2/Windows XP. The same drivers work for your old geforce2mx as for the latest £500 more money than sense 7blah card. Personally, I had some trouble with the latest nvidia drivers on one PC, so I went here http://www.omegadrivers.net/ instead.
  22. OK. Because that's one of the few things I can think of that would be a PCI device with a COMM port. IT *might* be interfering with the onboard sound, but it might be a total red herring. You can right click on it in the list there, and somewhere on the window that pops up is an option to disable that hardware. I would do that, as it doesn't work as it is, and finding drivers for rockwell/connexant PCI modems is a trial in itself, unless you have the original discs. You might want to check in the BIOS (Usually press DEL on startup, or F8 or whatever it says to do) and check that the onboard sound has not been disabled- there should be a section called PCI devices or similar which will have that option in it.
  23. Sorry to hear that- if your motherboard has an AGP slot, £30 and a bit of bravery will get you something like an nvidia 5200 card in there, and would be a noticable improvement.
  24. Did your PC come with a built in v90/56k modem? Did you stop using this to use broadband instead at some point?
  25. Locking people out of the forum is possibly the best way I've heard yet of killing the leagues. If it bothers anyone that freeloaders are getting help and advice, then it's simple enough to have eveyone's UKDirt subscription status under their avatar- "Sponging Get/Paid Member" or whatever. People can make their own minds up whether they want to help people then. Knocking the file uploads on the head/restricting them would probably save most of the bandwidth + storage, but only Kev has the stats for that.
