I use Gaim. Doesn't care if IE is there or not, it seems.
  2. With my method, you will always have three files: TARMACdrivers.txt SHALEdrivers.txt drivers.txt drivers.txt will always just be a copy of either the TARMAC or SHALE versions. As long as you don't delete them, or lose them, you can always then just copy them over drivers.txt (for example- open TARMACdrivers.txt in notepad, and Save As drivers.txt). The edits you suggest there look fine to me- it doesn't matter what you put on any line starting with ; because these are just comment lines. It would be a good idea to do it, though, as then you will know for sure which file you are reading. I could probably write up a shortcut that will ask you Tarmac or Shale, and then run Brisca Heat.
  3. Hmm. You could have two copies of your drivers.txt file. One called SHALEdrivers.txt with only shale cars in One called TARMACdrivers.txt with only tarmac cars in And copy either one to plain old drivers.txt when you're running one or the other groups of tracks, but you'd have to exit the game to change from one surface to the other.
  4. What happened to the Krypton Factor, anyway? About time it made a comeback.
  5. Well, Heat does have wobbly wheels, as anyone who's messed with a regular mod on the UKDirt tracks will know too well. But the damage isn't brilliant- vertex damage just seems to bring a massive delay in online race starts.
  6. Does it work? Did you get any errors in all the directsound tests? Do you have onboard sound, a PCI soundcard, or both? Are there newer drivers available from your soundcard/motherboard manufacturer's website? Also try- control panel Sounds and Audio Devices Audio tab Sound Playback - default device - click on Advanced Look for hardware acceleration slider- knock this one step to the left for 100% directX compatibility Your card may not have this option, in which case it won't help.
  7. I do sometimes wonder what DTRSC would play like with everyone on broadband.
  8. Last time I played Flat Out, the online ability was a dodgy hack, as the original game as released didn't have any. It might have improved since then. The DIRT game looks interesting.
  9. Make sure that Nascar Heat version 1.72e or later is installed. Missing tracks- if you're using (or have ever used) the mod swapper, it makes a track list which restricts the tracks you see in a mod- so you'd need to either delete this file (and I can't remember what it's called) or else use the mod swapper to add it back in. This is with older versions- the latest patches should let you have all tracks available. Also, the game MUST* be installed on the same drive as Windows- preferably in the program files\hasbro interactive folder. Start from scratch- install heat, apply patches, install mods, checking it works at each stage. *There is a way to install mods into different places, but that opens a whole new can of worms if/when it doesn't work.
  10. have a look here: http://forum.kev149.com/index.php?showtopic=3958
  11. An "advert" page for all the mods- a few times I've tried to "show off" UKDirt on other forums, email, etc, and there's no obvious page to point to to say "Here's what F1 looks like/bangers/SSC etc" with screenshots, model renders, etc.
  12. Reinstall DirectX, or check the sound drivers haven't been corrupted: Go to the start menu, choose "run" and tpye in DXDIAG and press return. This will have a series of tests which will test your system- try the sound tests and see how you get on.
  13. F2-Fan is correct, Al- the memory sticks are not the same as yours. I did have a motherboard that took both kinds (it was from the time when DDR was just coming into play). It would be cheaper (though a lot harder) to spend £30-40 on a new motherboard and use the cast off DDR ram, than to buy new 133 ram.
  14. Maybe it's time to do away with updates, etc and have one guaranteed complete download?
  15. It's Monster Games (MGI) who actually made Heat; the last game they did was Test Drive: Eve of Destruction. www.mgiracing.com Si- Even if all we can get is one 1/4 mile oval, it's something to race on and we can experiment from there. Definitely worth pursuing, I think.
  16. http://www.bhmotorsports.com/NH/downloads/570 Has Mod Launcher 2 1.5, rather than the new "Swiss Army Knife Edition" 1.6, but that's the oldest I've found, short of dusting off backup CDs.
  17. That's why I suggested reinstalling/redownloading. Also if the patch isn't recent enough, you can't use multiple wheels?
  18. AndyG will be working on GT Legends, at a guess. Bozz I saw posting on StoxNet not so long ago.
  19. May need download the files and reinstall if they were all installed already. Or make sure that Nascar Heat is patched to version 1.72e/1.80 (Go to options screen, check the number in the bottom right corner)
  20. Cheers. It was that or a netstat sniff.
  21. Test Drive: Eve of Destruction was the last game MGI made, according to their website, www.mgiracing.com rFactor- not much damage that I've seen, and as Albertz mentions, there's a lot going for the current Nascar Heat game- it's basically free now, with the essentials package, and the net play is one of the best to this date. That being said, Stu "Madcowie" who made some of my favourite tracks for Nascar Racing 2003, posted recently on our old RSC forum about doing something with rFactor. I pointed him towards these forums, but haven't checked since. If there are enough people with the talent and interest to make one track and one chassis, then you've got a mod you can race with.
  22. If you have a netgear router, I might be able to, but all I can find on Nascar Heat ports is port 2001 and that might not be the be all and end all (I'd expect UDP on another port for the actual game data while racing). I spent a fair bit of the weekend looking through all the Heat sites I could find with no joy. It's annoying because I thought this was all mentioned in a text file with one of the Heat patches (but not the latest, by the looks).
