  1. Up to, but no more than, your internet browser's cache settings. I think IE used to have this default to like 50mb or something, but it can be as little as zero, or as big as your harddrive. That's for copies of all the pages, pictures etc. The history file is a list of URLs visited and when, I guess that truncates after so many days/weeks/months, but it's only a wee text file anyway.
  2. It all begs the question why ban cross drilled cams if they don't improve performance.
  3. Always a good excuse to get something faster and shinier.
  4. For anyone reading who might be interested in a proper free program, GIMP is what you're looking for. It fits where it touches, but it does most jobs.
  5. Well, there seems to be a real lack of interesting scenery. Did I mention the cars were fun to drive (though I need to adjust my force feedback- it's a bit all or nothing at the moment) I just consider myself lucky that I can run the demo at all.
  6. The Elan is a lot of fun. Shame the chosen track is so dull, dull, dull.
  7. Firstly, check that you're running Nascar Heat patched at least to version 1.72. Reinstall (may need to download again) the banger mod and all updates. Full installation instructions on the ukdirt.co.uk site.

    help!

Don't know about the error, but if the IP you're giving out begins with 192, then it's the wrong address.
  9. I'd still like to see a session with the XR GT one time. It's the closest thing to a Cortina in the game.
  10. Do we know who it is who's hosting the banger racing? I only ask because there's a hell of a lot of barriers n stuff in the pits/start that could be got rid of- might speed things up a bit.
  11. I use this one: http://www.free-av.com/ Haven't had any trouble so far, but you never know until it goes wrong.
  12. Are you just trying to run nascars, or one of the ukdirt formulae? have you installed all the correct patches for nascar heat?
  13. I won the two seater ride for our lass when Startrax did the competition last year. She hate motor racing, but I know she enjoyed it from all the shale in her teeth Also that was the only time I've been able to watch the racing from the back straight at Sheffield- it's 10x better from that side.
  14. That looks fantastic. Where can I get one? I want to put one on my Punto. It'd be about as much use. Does it come with its own broom for clean-up?
  15. I've made it my personal mission to take out all the rodders on the server. I'm not short of targets.
  16. Never seen a crash log like that before. Try putting all graphics options to minimum in the game, and try unplugging the PS2 adaptor- just to check- I have heard of people getting lock ups with these PSX-USB things from time to time.
  17. I get this now and again- just close Heat and restart- allowing a bit of time for windows to sort its memory and stuff out can't hurt either (after running chat, paint progs etc).
  18. That's the second rods error I've seen relating to "diskglow.mod" which I'd have to assume is part of one of the car models... Maybe the rods download is bugg(er)ed?
  19. Maybe post up a copy of the drivers.txt if this is still ongoing?
  20. http://www.ukdirt.co.uk/ Side menu- Guides- Installation. shortcut- install patch 1.72e

    Laptops

Take a good look at Nick's spec- the crucial element there is "ATI mobility"- this means (however it compares to full desktop graphics) Nick's laptop has a proper 3d graphics chipset, unlike the utter pants that is Intel "Extreme". You'll pay for that (or there's the geforce Go chips I think), but if you don't I'd expect the laptop to be nigh on useless for games.
  23. Well, you should be safe in the knowledge that your gfx didn't get fried. I'm not sure why monkeying about with virtual memory should make much difference, unless your system partition is clogged up and you've not much ram installed- I used to manually set my swap file, but I think I switched it back to "let Bill sort it all out for you". Fingers crossed that it's all fixed, anyway.
  24. If the lightning strike popped a capacitor or two on the graphics card, it could be that- you wouldn't know until it's been running for a short while in 3d (and 6800le cards came with this "feature" as standard). If you can get hold of a free graphics card just to swap in and test, that should help. Other advice, as always: (re)install DirectX 9 install known good gfx drivers (lastest branded from your card maker's website maybe rather than reference drivers from ATI/nVidia/Whoever) Run "dxdiag" and see if any obvious errors crop up. Another way to test the graphics card (if it will let you) is to underclock the memory on it by a fair bit- if this stops the crashes, it might be a dodgy card, or I suppose it could be heat buildup.
  25. ACE71, if you follow catleague's instructions- make a copy (right click on, say UKDirtF1 shortcut, and choose Copy, then right click on the desktop and choose Paste). Right click on the "Copy of UKDirtF1" and choose Properties. The target should already be filled in, just go to the bit where it says UKDirtF1, and replace that with HMC. The alternative, is to download The Mask's Nascar Heat Mod Swapper from here: http://www.bhmotorsports.com/download/8868 And you will then be able to pick all your installed mods from a list, without having to make shortcuts for them all.
