Thanks for the idea's guys. I haven't got a clue where to start with building computers so would changing the case to something bigger be difficult? I think an air cooler sounds a good idea too. I would put a new fan in but there really isn't any room in the case. Here it is in perspective to a can of Lynx, as you can see its fairly tightly packed in, and a picture as it has to be run when on rFactor, and still over-heats quite badly, but 10C better than before the fans lol.

No, I sure as hell wouldn't say you drive lightly, you can drive hard hitting everything in sight in Heat, but thats becuase the cars bounce of each other and are cemented to the racing line, rFactor is completely different. I just don't think you could drive rFactor like you do in F2 and be red. In fact I know it. I haven't a problem with anyone who wants to just hit hard and have fun, thats fine, its what stock cars is about, it wouldn't be half as good without contact, but don't expect to be winning any races, thats all.
-
If you don't want to be a good driver then by all means hit hard, I'm not saying you can't, you just won't win races that way.

Did i say that but ever since i been watching stock car or racing them online.... apart from big al and ali p longer than most who have responded.. think i do know how, and to be honest... pussy footing round won't get you winning the world.... if it means feather bumpers... minimal contact.... tell where that comes into Stock Car racing... or have i been watching for 30 years a totally different formula that you call stock car ???? Yeah, but going in all guns blazing on every corner against anyone won't get you anywhere in rFactor or indeed in real life, you will just spin out or get taken out. Simple as that. I can't think of a successful driver who is overally aggresive. Stuart Smith won the World Final this year by being fast and giving Matt Newson a small tap wide, so he could get through. In the same meeting, Ed Neachell buried Murray Harrison and recieved a 12 month ban. Drivers who are very aggresive are not very succesful drivers. Mo Smith, the Squires from times gone by could all have been so much better if they cooled it a bit. 462 Scott Davids from the current racing scene is too aggresive. He is very aggresive, never hols back and when I first saw him race I thought 'he will be blue or even red' such is his pace. He now finds himself struggling to hold onto yellow as he makes a mess of things all the time. The most successful drivers in the sport have been, Lund, Wainmans, Cronshaw, Harrisons etc etc. Sure they have all be known to hit hard occasionally when it is needed, but more often than not they look for the gaps, drive fast and clean. That way you gain respect and go faster. Hitting cars slows you down which is drivers like Mo Smith, Rob Squires etc downfall. Nobodys saying its glass bumpers, I've dished out some big hits, I do usually once or twice a meeting, just ask MoR (who I practise on lol and likewise with him), but theres a time and place for it. Its not needed all the time, I actually do think your watching the wrong sport, becuase what I watch is not big hits every corner on anything in sight. Budge, drive a meeting rFactor, hit every car in front of you as hard as you can, and I gaurentee you will not score anymore than 1 point. That goes for real life too.

Aye, perfectly reasonable thread with a valid point and people who don't even race rFactor seem to think they know best. You don't like it fine, you've made your point, why even read this thread then? To stir it up as usual.

Hi, I recently bought a second hand 7950GT as before then my graphics card was a ATI x300 series 128mb. I bought it so I could have smooth graphics on rFactor. Obviously, its not worked out like that, as things rarely do with me. The problem is overheating. The card runs fine for a few minutes then over-heats and lags/stutters/freezes whatver you want to call it, a lot. I have the case off and 3 external house fans to try and cool the machine down, and I can get the core temp. to a lowest of 47C on idle. When I boot up rFactor the graphics card fan stops altogether even when I have it on Direct control at 100%, then it swiftly goes way passed the 70C mark and huge lag occurs, even worse than it was with the old card. I am running a 2.8ghz Dell Intel Pentium 4 CPU and 2GB of RAM on Windows XP and I'm using 169.28 drivers with the 7950GT. I have also tried 169.21 drivers earlier as Hutch suggested I try new drivers but its not made a difference. Please help as its getting beyond a joke after I spent so much money upgrading so it would be better, and its worse than I started out now Thanks Kruiz

You should watch Murray Harrison!! And see where that got him at Kings Lynn! Which is why I said most. There are drivers who are don't show any courtesy or respect to anyone else (97, 462, 65) a few I can think of off the top of my head. But as it ha been mentioned, these drivers often get into lots of trouble and have enemys or crash a lot. Ultimately, I think the choice is yours as to how you wish to race, but use your judgement as to what you think is best, don't hit for the sake of it as you may regret it later on. Usually if I know I'm being lapped I leave a little room for them to get through, otherwse you will only end up in the wall for not moving, and I only pass a driver a lap up if I'm sure I can do it without harming their race and I have something to gain from it, otherwise it isn't worth it.
-
Well, personally, I would make a move, but without hitting, maybe a tap. If I know the guy in front is a lap up, I might try and pass him if I'm faster, but not take him out. From what I understand, in real life rules, it is a contact sport, and you are allowed to hit people. Whilst it is frustrating getting passed by a backmarker, I'm sure it is allowed. However most drivers in real life are respectfull of each other and have the courtesy to move over and not ruin drivers races who are a lap up. The question is, do we have that here? I don't see why you should sit behind, similarly I don't think you have to move over for lapping drivers either. At the end of the day, it needs to be down to the driver in question's judegement, do you risk passing with the chance of annoying the driver a lap up and getting fired next corner and do you risk not letting a fast driver through and up being moved out of the way for your troubles. Thats my thoughts anyway.

In contrast to MoR, I didn't have one good race, bad luck all night really, I think I was spun out in every race, even ran out of fuel in the first heat at Bradford just after I gave DanSkin a last bend hit and couldn't make it to the line but nothing to do with the starts, just racing accidents mostly. I would keep it the same again for next week, I think it worked well Thanks MoR for running it again

I've also had this happen to me in offline play.

The positions display on the right hand side has been playing up I think for me recently. I'm sure it used to stay fixed on me, and then a few cars around me so I knew who was infront and behind, but now it seems to scroll down through the positions automatically, which is no help what so ever. Any idea how to fix this?

Happy birthday DAVID lol

Actually, after doing the WSF in KR3W this week, IpswichD can turn out some very good racing, although boring on its own with 20 other cars its very good and the closed grid WSF was brilliant, all but me and Beefy I think got away cleanly and the nights racing was awesome, best I've been involved in for a long time, so I'm not too bothered either way now tbh.

Yeah I think thats definately the way to go, the amount of cars is excellent, just accidents tend to unfold when everyone is so bunched up all the time, OK for a one off (like the supreme final, thought that went well) but not on regular occasions. Maybe keep the closed grid highest scorers at the back for the final only?

Very nice looking cars people Particulary Tosh's & Ironmac's Love the image on on Iron bonnet. Whoever it was who complained about the gold stripes on my wing need not worry, the the skins I submitted on the KR3W thread are stripeless.

Great meeting, lots of cars, lots of accidents can't wait for next week
