  1. A lot of people would have been very unhappy if we had dropped HEAT or RFactor from our 2008 season plans, that was made clear by the survey which showed relatively few would continue to race if the "other" mod was the one of choice - hence a compromise for one season was needed which included both mods. Regarding the survey, the more questions you ask, the harder it is to make sense of the responses, hence the survey was kept relatively simple. Whichever compromise was organised would not suit some, we are using the one we think will be fairest to the most people. Like Fritz says, the best way to find if it works is to wait until the season starts and get on with it. I know I won't be able to race all meetings and I guess a lot won't, but we should all be able to get enough meetings to make it worthwhile and it is only for the one season. It is almost certain things will have moved on again for 2009 one way or another.
  2. Scrap, I was meaning that the message seems to be you need an expensive steering wheel and a very good graphics card. I have not got either and won't be buying either. I have a cheap wheel and cheap pc and it'll do for me. As long as people don't look down their nose at that we'll be alright but looking at one or two photos on here I was well shocked at what people had - looked well expensive.
  3. Fair do Splinter, but in real life there is still room for a budget racer to come and get in the way. There seems a bit too much talk about what a massive amount of skill is needed to be brilliant at rFactor, there's a few egos growing already and then you see some of the kit people have for it. Let's hope those people can still accept losing...
  4. I thought this thread had finally died an overdue death til Splinter posted - but it isn't a "battle", it's a means of enjoyment for us all. I don't race to try and prove I am better than other people, there's enough of that kind of stuff goes on in 'real' life.
  5. Sorry Albz but there's more chance of me moving to New Zealand than them running on Friday or Saturday night.
  6. Albz right. Shut it Ranny! (Or better still, get back racing F1's, I miss you. )
  7. Personally, if I thought the guy was probably a lap up, I would not take many risks of taking him out at all as I know how I would feel if someone a lap down started bashing me about, but there again I am very unlikely to be quicker than anyone so doubt this would be my dilemma
  8. I reckon you have done a nice job on upgrading, Crewe. My pc has 128mb of on-board graphics and can run a twenty odd car final in rFactor ok so i reckon you'll be fine, even if you don't have the top notch spec of some of the other lucky fellas on here who are all too keen to tell you what you should have got instead.
  9. If your pc is really in a right mess, you might have to pay to get it sorted - Spyware Doctor costs twenty odd quid but in my experience WILL sort out your pc in those circumstances. By all means try the free ones first.
  10. It was fun and will be even better next week with rough grades as the closed grids are a bit too difficult to do, especially with a change in track each time. I am still getting used to watching my speed and the instruction of the steward at the same time as rolling in a controlled fashion, I find it miles more difficult than in Heat. We'll get there though. 2+2 heats also would be excellent. Cheers
  11. The mod is looking great, well done and thanks to all concerned.
  12. I'd like No.12 Michael Scriven (shale) and No.152 Neil Scothern (tarmac) please.
  13. Fantastic video again - really great to watch. Very clever how the late sequence merges from one car into another and then another etc - nice work. Thanks very much.
  14. An excellent meeting, I really enjoyed it. The good rthing with rFactor is even if you are off the pace and getting out of the way, it still feels realistic and exciting. The sound has a lot to do with that, awesome. I managed to avoid finishing last in any race which was my first target. As previously, the 20+ car GN was a bridge too far. The pile ups start happening and it's all a bit of a mess. I think i would prefer a couple of 12/13 car GNs, certainly while people are still learning the mod. Having said that, the all-in did seem popular with quite a few so fair do's. Thanks for running the series and creating the mod, great effort lads. Sunday Night Thunder should be great.
  15. Odsal looking great, Pedz I am looking forward to this one.
  16. I'm still trying to work out who were the dirty drivers cause I didn't see any myself I really enjoyed the heats as there was a bit more room and the racing seemed really good. I was way off the pace but seemed to keep out of most people's way. The Final & GN were a bit of a mess. With 22 cars including novices like me round a narrow track like Belle Vue, it was always going to be chaotic. I tried to stay out of the way but sometimes there were cars either side of me and it's hard to keep these things dead straight The temptation was to get straight back on track after a prang as that's what we are there for and I need the laps, although I maybe should have packed in before the end. To be honest, I wasn't that sure if the car was broke. Birmingham should be good and it should be easier to keep it cleaner there. Don't forget the fastest drivers do need the slowest out on track too if they are going to have anyone to beat.
  17. Bigal515 booking in directly behind IronMac
  18. Superb video. That must have took hours to put together, but it's the best I have seen on UK Dirt ever. RFactor does look superb compared to Heat watching that video, let's hope it attracts people in.
  19. Sorry about your hard drive, Kruiz - that is especially tough after just winning a Final. Re contact - Mike gave me a fair clout in an early exchange and I was brave enough to give him a tap back, which kept us both in shape ok and just sent him a little wide, just like I wanted - so like you say, it can be done, no problem.
  20. Well done Kruiz. I liked the track, seemed like Buxton although you could pretend you were racing Baarlo, it felt that fast I thought it was relatively easy to drive and forgiving for a novice like me. I enjoyed the racing, the highlight being a few laps of close battling with Tinman, passing & repassing. I was a bit surprised to get buried by a red from way back when in 5th in the Final, which broke my car, bit of a shame as the more laps the better at the mo. Looking forward to next Sunday's meeting already.
  21. I have found that if I de-select the window option in rFactor Config, I get the previous error that causes the graphics to crash completely and where a re-boot is the only way to get graphics back normal. But reverting to running it in a window again is absolutely fine and the game runs well. How strange? So I have no option but to run it in a window.
